About
Situated on coastal farmland in Wallington, east of Geelong and just over an hour from Melbourne on the Bellarine Peninsula, is Oakdene’s boutique vineyard, cellar door, restaurant, café and gardens. With award winning premium cool climate wines, a highly acclaimed restaurant and café serving exquisitely prepared food and three themed accommodation rooms, the unique property is an experience you shouldn't miss. Oakdene’s hand-crafted wines are elegant, reflecting varietal character and complexity. Dedication to excellence in the vineyard and winery produce great results with wines being awarded medals and trophies in major wine shows and a consistent 5-star rating in the Halliday Wine Companion over many years. The cellar door is manned by a small team of locals who have developed an intimate understanding of the region and a deep knowledge of the wines. The team are keen to talk you through the range of award-winning wines with the cellar door open 10am -7pm every day.

Disgraceful greetings, This was the last of 3 we visited this day, was 3pm . We parked went in and was made to feel unwelcomed the moment the chap opened his mouth. Talked down to us, not hospitality at all. We the said the chap we will just go get something to eat at the café into which is part of the winery. The place stated it closed at 4pm when i asked the las if we could get something to eat she abruptly said were closed. Funny thing is still about 30 people seated in the cafe. So lose -lose for you both, my money stays in my pocket and the local fast food joint gets it.

Impressive

We stayed in adjacent accommodation and on our first day visited the Cellar Door for a wine tasting. Staff member Holly greeted us with her ready smile and imparted her knowledge of the region and Vineyard wines with us. She was a treasure and a great ambassador for Oakdene.
We particularly liked the Wine Club, free membership and no minimum buy per annum - thank you Oakdene.
We look forward to enjoying our wines and reminiscing on our visit to the Cellar Door.

Great place to stay for exploring Bellarine peninsula
Oct. 2019
This is a wonderful peaceful place to stay, very accessible to Queenscliffe and other places on the peninsula. The room was extremely comfortable and beautifully furnished and the surroundings are gorgeous. We ate dinner at the cafe there all 3 nights - it was excellent food and very reasonably priced. The included continental breakfast in the room was a bit underwhelming - a small, day old (as it was delivered the day before needed) croissant, a slice of bread (the same pieces left for the 3 days, when we didn't eat them the first day), a piece of (not very fresh looking) fruit, and a yoghurt (we had to ask for the second yoghurt for the 2 people). There was also some meat, but as I am a vegetarian that was not of interest. However the coffee machine was excellent, and it was nice to be able to have something to eat before heading out. There were also a couple of tiny yummy pastries that we ate straightaway in the afternoon, that I guess we could have saved for breakfast, but seemed better to eat them fresh. Room service generally left a bit to be desired - one day they forgot to make the bed, though that didn't really matter to us at all. The staff in the restaurant and cafe were very friendly and they let us stay for a late checkout which was appreciated. Overall it was a very relaxing place to stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend away.

Thanks for your review of our Guesthouse & Cafe. Glad you enjoyed your stay with us & your meals at Mr Grubb @ Oakdene. We have recently changed cleaners and are having some issues, so will definately be chasing up why the bed wasn't made etc. We will also be looking at your breakfast issues, just not acceptable. Our sincere apologies.

Quirky and sweet little cellar door. Nothing remarkable, but not bad. Decent Merlot/Cab blend, and surprisingly floral Chardonnay that went down well. Peta's 2018 Pinot Noir was the highlight. Good service and knowledgeable staff

A great find
Dec. 2019
The four of us stopped by not knowing anything about the wines they produce but we left as firm converts!
The tasting was very thorough and friendly with no pressure to but. We tasted the range on offer and we all purchased from the cellar door. The fellow manning the tastings was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer questions and explain each of the wines. We will definitely be buying more in the future.

We went to Oakdene on a rainy Sunday the day of the Geelong wine event. We met Brett who was awesome and fun. He told us his "older brother" Steve would be at the Geelong event so we made sure to say hi. Great blokes and great wine.

Lovely vinyard with a nice bistro/restaurant.

Oakdene Vinyard is located in the greater Geelong city. It's location is in the midst of the wine area. Oakdene provides a good environment to enjoy wine tasting and a stroll through the gardens.

Wine and Dine

We enjoyed a birthday party for 20 at Oakdene, with a set menu and matched wines. Sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, shiraz and a dessert riesling were all superb. In fact it might be the best Australian sauvie I’ve ever had. The food and service were all great. Kingfish sashimi, and BBQ octopus with bone marrow were highlights.

Sadly disappointing
May 2019 • Couples
Been meaning to call in for a while for a glass of wine, and/or lunch. Today was the former option but sadly we weren’t even able to enjoy our wine in the restaurant despite an empty front of house and were promptly directed to drink it in the front bar, which was cold and un-welcoming despite the magnificent (unlit) fireplace. Overall it was an ordinary experience for us which equally could have been wonderful and welcoming. Needless to say I won’t be returning for an encore anytime soon. Oakdene has tremendous potential, which is a real tragedy but certainly not worthy of your hard earned.

Thank you for taking the time to review us at Marty's. We do appreciate all feedback both positive & negative, but it is quite upsetting to hear you did not enjoy your visit with us. Our main dining area is set for a restaurant service and on occasion when we do have guests looking to have a drink (or two!) they find our quirky front bar & game area very welcoming for this. On Sunday our fireplace was unlit and you may have noticed some ash in the fireplace. The fire was lit on Friday night and too much smoke created which travelled through the restaurant so we have not been able to light it again until the issue is resolved. There is a heater in the room to keep warm however if you feel the room was cold & un-welcoming I apologise and certainly will look into this matter. I do hope you try Oakdene again as we do have lots on offer including our 'upside-down house' Cellar Door where you can taste and drink wine, along with our Mr Grubb Café for a casual lunch or dinner inside or in the Summer months a drink and a nibble on the deck under the silver birch trees.
