Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We took the drive up to the dam this morning and the scenery is beautiful. The road is well marked and easily passable for two cars. The view at the dam is amazing and it is so peaceful. Definitely worth the trip.

During a recent holiday near Guia, we had a number of cloudy days. Having done all the usual tourist attractions we decided to have a drive out to Arade Dam and then onto Funcho Dam Barragen.

The dam is situated at the end of a 7KM track off the main road. There are good views of the lakes containing the water and the local countryside on the drive to the dam.

On arrival at the 'dry' side of the dam the road comes to an abrupt end at a barrier next to a derelict and overgrown Picnic spot. I walked the rest of the way down a very step hill to the dam area, it looked like it had been abandoned. I was contemplating climb some steps going up the side of the dam, but then it decided to pour down with rain.

What could have been a very interesting day out was let down by a derelict picnic site, no information about the dam, and no notices or maps regarding walks in the local area (would have loved to of hiked up to the trig point if I had known about it.

We did not visit the 'Wet' side of the dam as the road was very steep and we didnt want to risk damaging the hire car.

In great contrast to the hurley-burley of the coast, this is nearer proper Portugal. Beautiful scenery, peaceful and devoid of any commercial outlets, bar some noisy buggy/quad bikes which can annoyingly appear. Plenty of stopping points if you are a cyclist or driver. For walkers and hikers it a wonderful area to enjoy. So if you are a townie, prefer traffic and noise probably not for you.

Reading the other reviews, we must have gone to the wrong end. We went in the first sign posted road coming out of Silves, took a single track road up to the dam wall, kids did not want me to stop. Over the other side of the dam was a burnt out building, straight from a horror movie set, with one dodgy looking van parked up in the car park. We quickly left and made our way down another single trak road. The kids were relieved when we got back on a normal route.

I had read about this new trail and as we were based in Carvoeiro decided to go see. Heading towards SB de Messines from Silves on the N124, its about 6 mins drive from the bridge in Silves. Look for the Barragen sign on the left. The trail is not signposted so we were guessing on where it started. Follow the road around. It's quite curvy and remote but persevere for bout 10 mins. You'll eventually come to a small dam which you cross on cobbled roads. Keep going and you get to a small circular car park. not sign posted either. Start your walk from here. If you have googlemaps, you'll see where the dam is and where you are in relation to it and you can see your walk. About 7kms. The walk is pretty straight forward with different offshoots but stick to Google map route. About 6km in Google took us left when we should have gone straight on. Google maps shows a disconnect between the path and Dam but there isn't. Only take the left if you're using a map and like climbing. We did take left and the views were stunning at the top before we descended towards the dam. Take WATER. even on a half cloudy day it was hot. The walk itself was moderate, a few hills bt not too taxing apart from the left turn climb. The shale walls you pass have wonderful colours, the track itself easy to walk on and the different views remarkable. We were passed by some quads who all waved but seemed to disappear off the walking trail. We didn't see any other walkers. We did maintain cell coverage even though we were remote. Great walking one we will do again

Nothing special, just a reservoir in a park with walks and views. It's a nice scenic drive but unless you're looking for serious hiking not worth going out of your way for

We walked around part of the Barragem with a large group of friends. Climbed to the local trig point for the views. Well marked tracks. Interesting area and lovely countryside.

Amazing views, it was a bit quiet we did see a few cyclists as there are tracks over all the hills for you to ride along. A great place for a picnic anytime of the year. Very peaceful.Worth a visit.
