The baths are currently closed and clearly under renovation. The short walk (about 15 - 20 minutes) which is open and free is located just on the left of the bath facilities is well worth a visit. It has a clear circular path to walk on; keep track of young children and do not wander off the path.

We used a private pool, a bit expensive for only 20 minutes...which seemed to go by very fast. Looks a little rundown, so would recommend either giving it a better "rural" look or a hand of paint.
Don't know how the public pool is but is much cheaper and I think there is no time limit (but not sure).

We have been to the Tokaanu Thermal pools on many occasions over the years and were very disappointed during our last visit. The private pool we were in was very rundown and in bad need of a paint. Possibly some tiling or plants would spruce it up a bit. We were there for a relaxing time and unfortunately there is now loud pumps in the pool which look dirty and dangerous. It’s such a shame as for many years we were more than happy to visit. Won’t be back again until changes are made.

On a chilly rainy afternoon we decided to spontaneously take a trip to the pools. Friday afternoon, 3pm. Car park barely full. We paid for a private pool for the two of us and out little boy. $12 each for 20mins (toddler was free). Plenty available.
Great set up, changing room inside with your private pool. I always take flip flops, fluffy towel and a dressing gown when I swim, keeps you toasty warm when you get out and allows your feet to dry! Partially covered and partially open air which would be amazing on a clear night as you could sit on the steps and star gaze. It was raining for us but I liked it all the same!
This is a no frills DOC set up so don’t expect luxury, it does do what it says on the tin though and that’s a hot thermal pool to chillax in. Can’t comment on the main pool as we didn’t use it. Reception staff could be a little friendlier upon arrival but otherwise pleasant. You can purchase fish food to feed the trout that linger underneath the main bridge you cross from the car park.
All in all and great experience to add to our first family holiday to the snow ❄️

Well worth a visit. We prefer the public pool as the private pools seem a bit dirty and you dont know what went on in them before you.

Found the private pools a bit hot on this visit, and given the wind died off, the main pool needed a sun shade to be truly perfect. But at the price you pay, they're still amazing and I will still be back all the time.

These pools and amenities are spotlessly clean. There is no jumping or bombing in the pool so you can just relax. They are also inexpensive at $12 per adult. There are private pools, a large pool and a toddlers pool. Also a free thermal walk.

Went straight to the Tokaanu Thermal Pools after completing the Tongariro Crossing in January and we all felt completely recovered with no aches the following day. They are very reasonably priced and great to have so close after the walk. Highly recommend

This facility is very very run down, and needs a complete refurbishment. Rubbish and weeds around the pool, paint flaking off the pool, holes in the decking - serious health and safety issues. I won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. A real shame because it could be great.
