Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This museum is the personal collection of Bruning, who donated it on lieu of paying taxes in order to leave the country. It holds a number of pieces from several time periods and cultures.
Building has great architecture also. Quick visit, hour or two tops. Worthwhile.

I prefer "small" museums like this that tackle big things...like to provide us with an overview of the cultures that inhabited this region for over 4000 years! This is so well done.

An excellent museum with exhibits outlining and comparing the various cultures of northern Peru including Vicus, Moche, Lambayeque and Chimu. There are exhibits of pottery and ceramics, textiles, mummies and other elements of the civilizations. Not to be missed are some exquisite gold pieces such as necklaces, vests, masks and jewelry items. Though the Bruning has lost is prominence since the opening of the Tumbas Reales Museum (and the loss of the Lord of Sipan items)
, it is still a "must see" site. Unlike its neighbor, photography is allowed. Signage is in Spanish, a guide would be helpful. Entrance fee is S/8.

After seeing the Lord of Sipan museum, I assumed that this would be a let down. I was pleasantly surprised though. They have 4 levels of artifacts with plenty of gold in the basement. Shows the diversity of artifacts from the area.

Somewhat dwarfed by the museo nacional de los tombes reales de Sipan, a short walk or motocar trip from this museum, it displays similar, but somewhat less spectacular, finds. Advantage is that here you are allowed to take pictures. Still, some amazing copper-gold objects are on display, and the museum is well worth a visit.

If you hire a guide for this museum you will get so much more out of it. Our guide spent at least 2 hours with us going from floor to floor and answered all of our questions very thoroughly. We had visited many archelogical sites prior to this in both Trujillo and Chiclayo so we had an idea of the cultures. The ceramics are absolutely stunning and so well-preserved. The floor with all of the gold in this collection is also well presented and you can take photos. It´s a shame that most of the gold pieces are in the Museum of Gold in Lima, and not so well cared for or displayed. Most of the pieces here were recovered from the ´huaceros´/robbers or smugglers. If you have time and have already visited Senor de Sipan, add this to your itinerary, but only with a guide to walk you through.

The Bruning museum is located near the center of Lambayeque, and approximately 5 blocks from the Museo Reales del Senor de Sipan. The Bruning Museum is quite different from the "Sipan" museum in that it has a modest display (but quite interesting) of gold and silver jewelry, excellent display of ceramics, ceramic moulds, weapons and agricultural implements from the various Peruvian civilizations found in the north of Peru: Chavin, Moche, Chemin and Lambayeque. The ceramic displays and description of the metal making techniques of the coastal Peru cultures are excellent and quite instructional. The museum is small but not too small. Displays labeled in both Spanish and English. Photos w/o flash are allowed. Entry was S/10 per person. Bathrooms available.

Tours generally do not now include the museum in their schedule. When my wife and I visited Lambayeque (on our tour), we skipped the "lunch" and visited the museum for about 45minutes. The alternative, if you have more time, is to take a taxi from Chiclayo to Lambayeque (@S/20 one way), or take a "combi" bus from Chiclayo to Lambayeque and then return same way to Chiclayo (S/2.20 per person per trip, or @S/9 for 2 people r/t). Combi's are safe and efficient and all the locals use them - just take the normal precautions. If you do not speak any Spanish, and have not traveled much in Peru, best to stay with a taxi. Enjoy and good luck!

The museum reviews the history of the region along the years and the old cultures and the differences in the crafts, mostly ceramics and metals. On the downside, there is not much information and in most cases other than seeing the exhibitions you don't get the background. Also when I arrived the right part of the museum was closed and the mural outside was colored in white... Outside of the museum there's a beautiful statue of Tumi, but as the rest of the museum, there isn't even a bit of information about this figure...
