There is an amazing collection of artefacts. The museum is both in English and Spanish. Guides speaking french can also be booked in advance. Getting there from Chiclayo with a collectivo should be fairly easy, it's a straight route between the two points. We did the visit as part of a tour. If you are in Chiclayo it's a must see. The artefacts discovered are stunningly detailed and beautiful, some of the best pieces in Peru.

This was one of the best archeology museums I’ve been to. We took a guided tour which enhanced the experience. The amount of gold recovered was incredible! Beautiful intricate craftsmanship that I had never seen anywhere before. Truely a world class archeological discovery.
The town of Lambayeque is off the beaten path and does not have the best roads.
Photos of any kind are strictly controlled. You can’t enter the museum with cameras or cell phones (and they do search you!) I was disappointed that you couldn’t even buy pictures.
However, what you see inside is definitely worth the effort and an experience you won’t forget!

This really is a world-class museum. Not only for the quality of the exhibits but also for the context that they give to support your understanding of them and the use of light and space in the building (the pieces are bright and detailed and nothing is crammed too close together). Alongside beautifully restored artifacts there are photographs and diagrams showing the pieces as they were found and precise diorama reproductions of the individual tombs so you can see how the pieces looked when they were first revealed or how they looked when the individual was first entombed.
It's not mandatory to have a guide so you can walk at your own pace to enjoy the museum if you'd rather. About 10% of the supporting text for the exhibits is in English although if you're travelling on a budget you don't really need a guide to understand the rest (30 soles for a English speaking guide) as a lot of the story is self-explanatory and the illustrations, models and dioramas will help a lot.
To get here on public transport from Chiclayo walk to the corner of San Jose and Avenida Angemos, you'll see lots of collectivo companies (and will hear them shouting 'Lambayeque'). It's 1.50 soles to get there and they can drop you off at the end of the road that the museum is on. To return walk back to the same junction you were dropped at and on the opposite side of the road will be waiting collectivos.

The museum is mind-blowing, so many incredible objects! If you go on your own, get a guide at the museum, so much to see and talk about. I came with a tour from Chiclayo (Colonial Tours, very good company), we first visited the actual site where the tombs were discovered, then the onsite museum and after lunch came to Tumbas Reales. This day was awesome, full of history and stories, a full picture of the amazing Moche culture, totally recommend that. In case you consider also seeing the places/museum of the Sican culture, it is not as splendid as the Sipan/Tumbas Reales so if you don't have time, don't miss Tumbas Reales.

The museum is international class.. There is no need to make photo so hight are the quality of what you see , the presentation and the lightening ! the plash . a great silence in this splendid museum. Not a lot of tourist becauce of the distance from Lima but hight cultural level ones.

When I think of good museums, I generally think classic or modern art in the Parises,New Yorks, or Romes. But the truth is, walking through this was one of the most enlightening, enjoyable, and impressive museum experiences I've had.
Plain and simple, Senor de Sipan was a baller. This was all about his civilization and how we was honored in death with an incredible tomb. They have a life-sized model of what it looked like, and I'm not going to give anything away, but the guy went out in style. Get an early breakfast at the Chiclayo market, hop on a combi, and see this museum - you won't be disappointed!

I did a one day tour whit my friends. We traveled by bus from Trujillo, there are no direct buses from Trujillo to Lambayeque, so you have to take a bus from Trujillo to Chiclayo and them another bus or taxi from Chiclayo to Lambayeque. From Trujillo to Chiclayo approximately a 3 hour trip. The bus company we use is Emtrafesa (www.emtrafesa.com) that departs Trujillo every 15min and their prices are between $6 to $8 (16 to 21 soles), the one of 21 soles is better. From Chiclayo to Lambayeque you can take a bus or taxi, we took a taxi for $4 (10 soles) for 4 people. The museum is really interesting; we took a guide which was helpful to understand all the information and objects. Apart from the museum exhibition, there's kind of Inca village recreation, where they sell crafts. It gets cold in the evenings, so take a coat. In Chiclayo there is also a beach call Pimentel, I was not there but they say it’s pretty cool. Another option is that you take a day tour that takes you from Trujillo to the museum for $27 (75 soles).

This modern Museum hosts the invaluable artifacts found in Huaca Rajada's Moche culture intact burials, mainly those of the Lord of Sipan and the Old Lord as well as the warrior priest.
The artifacts and textiles are magnificent works of art and are presented in didactic ways, with English captions and interactive tools.
The building itself is nice, simulating a pyramidal Huaca.
you need to travel about 40 minutes to get there, entry fee is 15 soles. It is closed on Monday.

This museum opened in 2013 is certainly well worth a visit. About 90% is in Spanish so a good guide is essential. All of the artifacts are the originals and because there is a very large collection of gold, silver and other priceless items, the security is high. Bags, cameras and phones are not allowed in.
The first of seven levels to be excavated contains the tomb of the younger Lord Sipan. This site was actually discovered by accident. Looters had dug several deep holes and found several priceless items but unfortunately damaged others in the process. According to our guide some of the archaeologists got wind of this and immediately secured the area.
The archaeologists who worked on the top level didn’t have the expertise to restore the artifacts so they were sent to Germany for restoration. In return, when complete, these were on display in Europe for a period of time. Now this work is done on site at the museum. The last section has a display of gold artifacts retrieved from looters. - in the process, several looters and police died of gun shot. Other pieces were bought back from Sotheby’s and a suitcase of gold on display was found in the possession of a politician who was trying to leave the country.
It is a fascinating place to visit and I spent a couple of hours there.

Truly remarkable! such a pleasure to visit a museum without anyone trying to take photos or selfies! [you leave all bags etc in a safe deposit before entry]. The layout, taking you through the excavation, with a replica tomb at the base is a wonderful concept. And the finds are truly amazing. You can't beat the museum at Bogota for gold, but the artefacts here are stunning. Look on the web site for examples.
There are guides to take you around, but the notices are in several languages - about 6 I think. I stayed for 2 hours. I noticed that those people who had taken a guide all went out in about an hour. There is so much to take in it is best [like most museums] to do it at your own pace. If you are interested in the process of archaeological excavation it is all explained here. If you only want to look at the finds, you will not be disappointed.
I booked a taxi from Chiclayo, fixed price as they have no meters. The manager at the hotel translated for me, so the driver knew I wanted him to take me here, the Bruning and the main square, and then to wait for me at each place. Was only 80 sols for the day. The manager also printed a map of Lambayeque for me from the web.

Gracias

Hi - I am staying in Wyndham Costa del Sol Chiclayo and wonder if the hotel will arrange a trip - their website is down at present! how did you get there? do you recall how far it is from Chiclayo?
Thanks
Written 14 November 2018
From Chiclayo it’s only a few minutes drive away, maybe half an hour. Lambayeque is like a suburb of Chiclayo. The hotel will certainly be able to call you a taxi, so getting there and back shouldn’t be a problem.

Bom dia
Obrigado
