Having cycled from Nantes in France this is my first stop in Austria the abbey is interesting apart from the skeletons but it is there custom. Do look up at the ceiling some great ‘modernist’ painting the town is quiet and peaceful with many cruise...More

Steps away from our riverboat cruise. One of the most stunning interiors for a village church. Worth the stop. We were also invited to a private home, lovely people.

The Abbey and grounds are definitely worth a visit and if you are on a river cruise and they make a stop here, it is very enjoyable. The church is impressive on its own, but you'll also get a surprise as you have the opportunity...More

We stopped here while on a Danube cruise. The Abbey church was amazing, dating back hundreds of years. Sadly, only 4 elderly monks remain here. They pay the bills through brewing beer. They can't make enough to meet the demand. The interior of the church...More

Another nice church/abbey by the Donau. Though i could not stay longer inside. A prominent church in the village with special characteristic. The architecture is beautiful and looked stunning from the distance. Need to cross the river when traveling by car along the other side...More

We stopped at Engelhartszell for 1 hour whilst on as River Boat cruise. The town seemed very small but had an Abbey which for me was scary. It is a large church with some very interesting pieces if you can look past some of the...More

The Abbey is absolutely stunning, magnificence and I would love to learn more about the history of it. The interior was beautifully maintained and with the Angelic voices the evening was truly soul cleansing.

Our river cruise ship stopped in Engleszell to pick up some of the passengers who had biked down the Danube that day. We got off the ship to see the little town. What a surprise when we went to the Engelszell Abbey! We didn't expect...More

This was a surprise. We weren't expecting much, but the church was pretty ornate and interesting. The highlight was the shop that sells things that the monks produce. We bought one each of the three available beers and sampled them in the garden. They were...More
