Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice museum to visit as a day trip from Mexico City. Direct/Express buses do not go near the city core - requires taking a taxi from the highway or walk 20-30 minutes. To my dissapointment, there were only few mayan artifacts at this location. But, the church interior decorations are worth the visit. AVOID visiting on Sundays! Mexical residents get to enter this site for free on Sundays and it gets very very crowded. Entry cost is MXN 90 for tourists. The plaza/markets also get very crowded on Sundays.

The entry requirements are ridiculous. As in many places, it is prohibited to enter with food and drinks. However, it is not possible to leave them in parcels either. In our case, we had bought some artisanal cookies and bread at a local business. As expected, they put the bread in a brown bag. And the museum did not let us keep our bread in packaging because it was not packaged in plastic and sealed. We couldn't enter it either even if it was closed and stored in our carry-on bag.
It seems to us to be an extremely out of place measure because there is no way to bring any type of food to the museum. In our case, one person had to stay to keep the food.

April 30,2013: To go to Tepotzotlan from El Centro Historico in Mexico City, we took the Metro to the Cuatro Camino terminal. Outside the bus station are many buses, some will take you to Tepotzotlan for 14 pesos per person. It is a 45 minutes to one hour trip depending on the traffic. The bus leaves you one block from the Museo Nacional del Virreinato located in the old convent. The Museum tour includes the Church as well. The Church is not huge like some, but is one of the most beautiful and most decorated I have seen. It also has a beautiful antique organ located on the first floor and is probably original from the 16th or 17th century. The Museum is very nice, mostly displaying religious art but there are some other nice items from the Spanish period. Cost is 55 pesos per person, free for Inapam card holders, but only if you are a Mexican citizen. This is the first time I see this restriction in Mexico. It is a large museum and the building was very cool and comfortable. We spent about one hour and a half. We took another bus to get back to Mexico City, this one took us to the El Rosario metro terminal. We had a very nice time.

Amazing and amazingly well organized during covid times. The staff could be a little bit more friendly but is a side note.

You can’t imagine what you can find inside this museum... it’s amazing, and the most increíble part is the main church... lots and lots of images and sculptures, with a beautiful golden finish. You don’t know where to see! There’s also a new area behind the main church that is also remarkable, paintings in the ceilings and walls... The orchard is also beautiful, you can walk along the alleys and enjoy the views. If you can manage to get here, enjoy the visit!

We went here for a concert in December, the setting was beautiful, children playing out in the gardens, hot and sunny weather, and from what I saw of the actual palace, beautiful. I'd love to go back and explore in more detail!
I visited with my husbands family who are all Mexican (we live in UK). Mexicans can enter for free, and foreigners have to pay. We were all chatting at the entrance when suddenly we heard a shout "Foreigners have to pay". The lady in the kiosk was so rude, I think she thought I was trying not to pay, when in fact I was greeting family I hadn't seen in two years. My mother-in-law and I went and explained to her but she didn't accept that I was happy to pay. I think she thought I was trying to dodge it by entering with a group of Mexicans.

Great museum in a large hacienda style structure. Great displays and lovely walk thru the corridors and outside. However, not much more to do and limited restaurant options. Combine it with another stop and it's a full day.

Very nice building, full of religious art and wonderful garden, you may spend peaceful entertaiment hours there.
The town itself is colourful and with colonial outlook.

Thinking about visiting a museum may become a bit boring, but in this museum it was different because you can observe stories, it is too imposing and it attracts too much attention from visitors, are paintings and pieces that can help rebuild a whole story in your mind, for me it was very educational and I would love to return again, but also on my visit there were small disadvantages, as it was a school visit and the companions did not allow to enjoy the whole visit, but for me it was a very beautiful place, it is also advisable to be prepared to learn more about history.

SI
