Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nov 2023 • Friends
Went for a walk up Scolty Hill in November '23 with a few friends. There are car parking charges with £2.50 for 3 hours or £3.00 for the full day. However, you can pay on Ringo if you do not have any change (although the Ringo prices are more expensive than just paying using coins at the machine).

Weather was not great which made parts of the path very slippy and in some areas, flooded but was a very easy hike nonetheless with the round trip being just short of 3 miles taking the steeper path there and looping round on the more gradual path on the way back down. It took us around an hour and a half all in including a break at the top. This was at a very easy pace.

The hike is well signposted and very easy to do for someone who is even partially active such as myself!

To be truthful I’d only attempt climbing to the summit of the 300 metre hill in sunny clear weather - simply for receiving better views from the peak. It’s moderately taxing , but your efforts are rewarded by delightful changing scenery , and 20 metre tall Scolty Tower situated on the top - a monument built in 1840 to General William Burnett , who fought alongside the Duke of Wellington in the Napoleonic Wars. If you don’t fancy the climb , then there are several woodland trails to follow in Scolty Woods, where you can just enjoy the tranquility of nature at your own pace. There’s a chargeable woodland carpark at the entrance .

Great little walk - headed off about 530pm and was at the monument 610pm - 40 minute walk, reasonably easy and accessible. Fantastic views (360) access to top of monument by spiral stair and views are even better from the top. Highly recommend for a quick walk.

We managed this with a baby in a carrier, 5yr old and 10yr old walking (who don't walk that much!) and it was very pleasant. Different scenery and then the tower to climb at the end. Well worth it, took about 2hrs at a relaxed pace.

Fantastic walk with great views. We followed the shortest and steepest of the routes to the top. The weather was great - too warm if anything, and it was a challenge. For experienced walkers or fit people it would be a stroll but if you are not then allow plenty of time and rests.
Grandchildren loved the tower and the steps.
Well worth the time.

Visiting Banchory for the weekend and this is such a prominent feature to look at from the town. We walked from the town to the top and back but there are carparks at the start of the forest walks, lots of different paths to take. Be warned if you have dodgy knees that some paths are straight up. Well worth the view when you reach the top you can pick out lots of hills / munro's and of course Banchory itself below.

This is one of the best walks in the whole of Aberdeenshire. It is situated about 5 minutes outside of Banchory. There is a big car park at the bottom so remember to take some change for the meter. There are a couple of different routes to the top, but it should take you about 45 minutes max to reach the top. The summit has a cool tower and stunning panoramic views. A must see/do.

Marked paths of different lengths through proper woods. Would be beautiful in good weather I’m sure! It was very wet when we were there but dog loved it none the less!

Lots of walks, nice views, great for family. Well worth a hike to the top. Stop off in Banchory to get some food first though, as nothing to eat or drink there.
