Overview
More
The Heugh Battery Museum preserves the only First World War Battlefield in the UK and commemorates the Bombardment of the Hartlepools on 16th December 1914. We have a reconstructed trench, lots of large artillery pieces and rifle collection. We have a cafe serving hot and cold food. We are dog friendly, and provide a great day out for the family. PLEASE NOTE: There is a misprint on our latest brochure which reads that we are open Monday to Friday from June to August. We are only open Friday - Monday during this time of the year. We apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment caused by this error.

A great day out with some fantastic militaria. There are ex soldiers who give you some wonderful stories to bring the museum to life. As it is an actual battlefield too it is a special place to visit.

The museum encapsulates the 1914 bombardment of Hartlepool alongside a fascinating collection of military artefacts and memorabilia. You come away with a real sense of the challenges met by the local community and what an important part the battery played in defending the town. Knowledgeable...More

We recently visited the Heugh Battery Museum. It’s not the biggest , it’s not the most Hi-Tec and some may say its run down and lacks investment. But don’t let that put you off. The site is steeped in its own historical national heroic place...More
