The northern home of the National Museum of the Royal Navy. A fascinating journey through time, set in an authentically-created historic quayside of the 1800s. Experience Fighting Ships, a powerful insight into the tough lives of sailors from around the time of Admiral Lord Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar. Learn how they were press ganged and see what life was like on board HMS Trincomalee, the oldest warship still afloat in the UK and the jewel in the historic quayside of Hartlepool.

Interesting, good for little learners.

My toddler loved the ship and exploring it. Interesting to walk around and learn. The cafe is nice too.

I wasn't expecting the National Museum of the Royal Navy to be as immense as it was and neither was I expecting the amount of attractions that were on offer. Within the site is the Historic Quay which is an incredible interpretation of a quayside of 1800's with the sights and sounds from that era, and there is a fighting... More

Purchased a family ticket and we can visit up to 5 times a year, very good value. We visited with my two boys (6&4) who had a brilliant day. The staff are very friendly and helpful. (Gift shop staff and guide Lee) Very interesting for adults and children, lots to see and do. We got there for about 11.30 and... More

We went for ten but it opens at 11 in winter season, no matter there was a handy shopping centre over the road in which we used to kill an hour! There is lots of different parts to this museum. We played in the climbing frame ship which was well built and good fun with lots of levels We explored... More

Brilliant day! Informative, entertaining, quality attraction. Something for all the family with historic HMS Trincomalee being the centrepiece. Working on the basis that every day's a school day, I learnt many interesting facts from Stuart, one of the 4 maintenance staff working on the ship's upkeep. Who knew that British sailors on Indian built ships like Trincomalee, dreaded battle damage... More

Great day out with family. Friendly staff eager to help. Lots to see here. Great waxwork tour of life on board a ship in Georgian times. A great restored ship to explore and a chance to watch a musket, cannon and pistol all being fired with real gunpowder while the staff explain press gangs and life on a warship. Your... More

This museum gives an excellent history of Hartlepool through the ages. There is plenty of interaction for children. I often take my visitors here and it is always enjoyed by adults and children alike.
