Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stopped off at this bridge to bide some time between visiting the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle. We parked in a side street leading up to the bridge and walked over the cobbled walkway. No cars are allowed over. Worth spending some time just to admire the workmanship and architecture.

Takes you over the river. No sign of the famous battle though. Bridge itself isn't that long, took me a couple of minutes to cross because my way was blocked by local pensioners slowly crawling over it.

Gorgeous old brige that now is only open to walk over. Very prety and lovely to see it preserved and in use too

This 4 arch span bridge has been around since the 16th century, but is not the bridge where our hero William Wallace defeated the English. That bridge is thought to have been downstream of the current bridge. Still, it’s appropriate that it has a view of the Wallace Monument.

It's an old bridge linked to an historic event, that of the defeat of the English army by William Wallace, a local hero. Mind that there is another bridge nearby where cars can run, while the Stirling Bridge is for pedestrians only. Walking along the bridge is really nice and there are some beautiful sights of the River Forth, the Wallace monument and the Stirling Castle.

Everyone has seen the film. Pitched battles, in a field... fearless and steadfast in the face of the English heavy cavalry. Well the old timers weren't daft. They didn't stand in front of the english cavalry at a charge. The battle was fought over a bridge, it was a cracking ambush of a large heavy army crossing a narrow obstacle. What is even less well known is the bridge didn't cross at right angles either, so there were some fantastic ballistic options. It was wooden too, so not that strong...
Yes, wooden. Nope... this isn't the bridge. It's not really clear from the on site information, it's Old Stirling Bridge alright, but not old enough!
The one you want... It's actually 80 yards upstream of where the "old bridge" is currently, evidence has been found of the piers apparently but nothing visible remains today. In the scheme of things, 8 yards; when two armies of thousands of men meet... is still rather too close for comfort and could still be considered quite atmospheric if that was the vibe you were looking for. The West end of the current bridge, furthest from the Town centre, is very near the old one's landfall. "Historian on the Warpath", Scott Manning has a very good article on this subject for those interested.
The views of Stirling Castle, the Beheading stone, Wallace Monument, the river, are all beyond dispute. Just please don't think William Wallace laid his blood soaked hand on the solid laid stones and wept for the lost... He did not rest his tired sword arm on the rough hewn stone... Not here, 70 yards upstream, maybe the stone was there then! ;)

We really enjoyed visiting Stirling Bridge. The area is picturesque with wonderful views. My partner went back the next morning and ran the trails near the bridge.

It is no mystery as to why so many photos have been made of this beautiful bridge and the beautiful setting where it is located. My wife and I were staying in Stirling and went on a late-afternoon stroll and walked down to Stirling Bridge. What a beautiful, beautiful setting.

Not "the forth Bridge" but a forth bridge, it would be a mistake not to visit this historic spot, easy to find and park or walk.

We will be visiting Stirling Castle in the morning and will be packing a lunch. Are there any reasonable places to sit and eat on/near/in view of the Stirling Bridge?

We will be coming by train to Stirling. Can we walk to the bridge from the train station or castle?

I'm sure this is a bit late... But yes, you can. It is about a 10/15 minute walk from the train station.
