Upton Castle is picturesque and charming Norman Castle which remains a private family home. The garden consists of 35 acres of listed historic gardens, surrounded by ancient woodland. There are spectacular herbaceous borders, a delightful formal rose garden and a fascinating, traditional 19th century walled garden. Rare trees and shrubs abound throughout the gardens and include a stunning collection of rhododendrons, tree Magnolias and Camellias. The medieval chapel contains ornately carved stone tombs of crusader knights. Enjoy woodland walks bursting with wild flowers leading to the shores of Upton Creek, part of the tidal Cleddau estuary. There are plenty of places along the paths to sit and soak up the tranquillity of the unique surroundings and enjoy a picnic. If you are lucky, you may even see an otter!

A pleasant experience which is reached by turning off the A477 from Pembroke to St. Clears at Milton. Follow the road until the Castle Gardens sign on the right is reached. Follow the lane to the car park. The Castle, which has only been sold 3 times in 750 years, has been inhabited since 1150. In the grounds is a... More

I'm sure this place must be really good, but I'm giving it a black mark as we couldn't get in! The info said it was open in October, and the sign on the gate said it was open in October. We arrived at the gate at midday on Monday 17th October, after travelling several miles, and it was locked, with... More

The Gardens are officially closed at the end of September, due to unreliable weather conditions in October. All our recent advertisments state this fact. More

When we visited (Sept 2016) we didn't see another person throughout. From the car park, having paid our fee into the honesty box, we took the "walk on the wildside" down through the woods to the headland. The woods showed some signs of management - felling, maintained paths etc but otherwise it felt like no-one had been there except us... More

Just an absolutely beautiful venue. Went to my brothers wedding and had a wonderful time. The marquee was beautiful, the owners couldn't do more for you and the food was delicious. Would love to visit again. My only bug bare would be it is a very narrow one lane road to get into the castle but still well worth it

Our family of five took the walk around the gardens ad all enjoyed it. In theory dogs must stay on a lead but we were advised of areas where it would be OK to let them off the lead as long as they recalled easily. Don't visit here expecting to visit a castle but do visit for the woodland and... More

Absolutely rubbish, such a waste of money. One of the worst gardens I have ever been to. Shouldn't even be open to public it's that bad.

The Castle is not open to the public as it is privately owned and the gardens were just alright so we felt it was a waste of a visit

Found completely by accident when on holidays and just followed the sign from the main road. A bit off the beaten track but worth the narrow roads to find this hidden gem. Beautiful gardens which we enjoyed nearly completely to ourselves - lovely to explore with the children and a lot packed in. Our favourite was the kitchen garden which... More

We only found out about this garden from a leaflet we picked up while visiting Picton. As we were staying fairly nearby we decided to visit. We were well rewarded. It has a great setting in the Pembrokeshire countryside. The castle itself is not open to the public but there is a medieval chapel which is open, and is worth... More
