Entrance to the Pedestrian City
Dec. 2019
One passes through these impressive arches to get to a huge open pedestrian place full of restaurants. And from there you can wander down a very long pedestrian street with all of the pubs and bars and tourist shops.

Entrance
Nov. 2019
This is one of the entrances to the tourist area from the long walk from the cruise ships. The arch is somewhat impressive, although not pretty.

The bastions were all similar and all had similar views ... each spectacular! Take some terrific photos and relax in the majesty near the top of Gibraltar!

You will go thro this when here. This gateway is restored beautifully. There is a statue of Nelson close by.

An Interesting Gateway, Nicely Restored.
Feb. 2019 • Couples
This wall and entrance gate originates back to the sixteenth century, when it was erected to prevent Barbary Pirate attacking the town from the North. It stands at the top of the Main Street and coming from the Town, the Trafalgar Cemetery is just outside the gateway to the left. There is an information board giving background information. Just before the gateway there is a large gun on the left hand side, whilst once through, there is a statue of Nelson on the right, facing the cemetery. Not a must do, but interesting nevertheless

Through the city near the southwest is a part of the original defensive wall of the city. It is a part of the history of the “Rock” and worth a look. A statue of Lord Nelson was erected here to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the victory at the Battle of Trafalgar and Nelson’s death.

Part of original fortifications
Feb. 2018 • Solo
This area is part of the original Gibraltar fortifications, initiated by Spanish Engineers and improved on by the British. There’s a large cannon on the town side of the “Gate” (arch) and most visitors will pass this way as they head towards the cable car station. There’s a mini cab rank on the far side where you can hire a car to drive round the sites of Gib and in front of the rank is Trafalgar Cemetery which most people wouldn’t know is there as it’s in a dip alongside the Bastion wall. The cemetery is small but interesting and worth a few moments of your time to look round.
