The start of the Iron Ring in the 13th century this is the only castle of the type built by Edward 1 and James of Saint George. This is probably because James did not begin this construction. Besieged by the Welsh on several occasions and...More

This place takes me back go my childhood of many happy memories of trying to sneak in, the castle is the first to be built along the north wales coast, it has been well maintained with added view point from the north tower, 56 steps...More

This is a lovely place to take young children to fly kites, picnic, play ball games with an adult revelling in all the fresh air for free.

Visited on a warm and sunny day. Free parking and free entry. Easy access to ground level, otherwise steps to higher elevation. Good information points located round the site along with explanations. Wonderful views over the estuary.

For a free castle, this was surprisingly good. Free parking and free entry. It had a few talking information boards which I found really helpful with the history of the castle. Also, I was surprised at how high you could go up the castle. Some...More

Whilst visiting the lifeboat station I saw the ruins next door. Parking with lots of seating areas to enjoy the view. The ruins offer great views and lots to see and wonder. Nicely presented given they are ruins on the seafront.

Its free! Plenty of parking nearby. Lots of grass to play on and banks to roll down. Lots of towers to explore. Lots of steps to tire the children out. A play park nearby. You can take dogs on leads and lots of lovely views.

Visited in August - nice an warm but still breezy, wouldn’t like to visit on a cold windy day! Very exposed. Some great towers to climb and views across the water. Worth reading the information panels about the castle, lots of history behind it.

We drove from Liverpool just to see Wales and randomly chose Flint as our destination. We were delighted by this castle ruin, and it was free. Well worth the visit.

Flint castle is often ignored but shouldn't be, it has a fascinating history and the visitor experience is being improved with new sound bars at various towers. good views as well across the River Deer to Parkgate.

There is a free public car park about 150m away from the castle. Just drive past the castle and follow the P signs. The car park is an easy flat walk to the castle entrance. The castle is also free.
