This house is in a class of its own, with superb views over Windermere. You're are left to wander through the rooms and imagine what life may have been like when it was first built - then down to earth with a tea and cake in the cafe....

Blackwell House is set overlooking Lake Windermere. The views from the many window seats are simply amazing. The rooms are filled with gorgeous Arts and Crafts works that would look good in any museam or galley. Every detail is an individual work of art. It doesn't feel stuffy and you can actually sit in the window seats and gaze across... More

We really enjoyed our visit to this wonderful house. Loved all the rooms but especially the white room. Please visit if you get the chance. The galleries with exhibitions not to our taste but are ever changing. Shop had some beautiful pieces, we had tea and cake in the tea room , very nice.

This house is beautiful in its simplicity and detail. The imagination and attention to detail within this property from the peacock wallpaper frieze to the many cosy window seats to the theme of tulips in the stained glass, is wonderful to behold. There is little furniture but the house has enough of itself to interest anyone. There are it seems... More

Well preserved house with great interior details. Nice view of the lake although we visited on a wet and windy December afternoon so the weather was terrible - must come back on a sunny summer day to take advantage of the location and views of the lake below.

Travelled by taxi from Windermere. £6 each way. Stunning location overlooking the lake, I was lucky that it was a beautiful sunny day. I toured the house and then toured it again I was so taken with the décor and furnishings. It must have been a wonderful home. Only trouble is that I want to live there! Very nice café.

This is a wonderful example of an Arts and Crafts house which has been beautifully restored. The day that we visited it was wet and we did not therefore take advantage of the gardens or the view but still enjoyed the visit. The tea shop was very good value with lovely home made food and cakes. We walked from Bowness... More

Wonderful house and a shop full of things I desperately wanted to own (but mostly couldn't afford!) Tea shop looks very nice though didn't have time to partake...

Stunning and atmospheric house which is just a joy to wonder around for a few hours. The main hall must be one of the best rooms of any kind in Britain.
