Find your own reason for why this place is great!
Apr. 2020 • Couples
Barnard Castle is a beautiful village that is not for being entertained at but getting to know. As you do so, remember to chat with the shopkeepers so that you can get to know why it is a special place to them. Find your own reason too!

Not worth driving to see, even to test your eyesight
Oct. 2020
Visited on Thursday 29th October 2020 as part of our North Yorkshire/Lake District Holiday. Day 6 Last day, on route home we stop off at the infamous Barnard Castle, not just a castle but also a town. It was miserable weather-wise. The castle itself is not much to write home about. Will not be back but the town seemed nice. Booked tickets online and English Heritage site with friendly staff and a nice view of the river.

Amazing views
Dec. 2020 • Couples
This is another castle onto our list of English Heritage sites and we were not disappointed. There are some amazing views over the town and the castle itself is very informative and there's lots to explore. It was really quiet when we went so managed to get some great pics with no humans in them. :) small gift shop there too.

Not as good as Specsavers
Apr. 2020
Me and the wife visited here back in April during the first lockdown to test my eyesight. We heard that it was a good facility for testing eyesight, but I was a little disappointed with both the facilities and service. On the whole, we probably should have just gone to Specsavers.

I always come to Barnard Castle to test my eyesight. Always have and will always continue to do so. The Castle's not bad either.

This place is steeped in history, the castle is a great place to enjoy, the town/village is great quirky place with costa in the middle of the main rd well worth a visit, the views are to die for especially for a stroll down the river. What a relaxing place.

Spectacular Location
Oct. 2020 • Couples
Remains of what must have been a very imposing pile in its heyday. Greeted by a very friendly young lady, who assured us that it wasn’t a problem that we had arrived early for our pre booked visit. There are large expanses of grass in front of the main body of the castle, so the potential for damp feet is high. The castle itself has been knocked about a bit, during it’s long history, but there are plenty of information boards around the site and it’s possible to imagine what it must have been like when Richard 3 rd was in residence. Well worth a visit if you are in area.

Good for a few hours out
Sep. 2020 • Couples
We didn't go in as it didn't seem alot to see but the outside looked pretty impressive. Went for a walk down the hill and through a nearby park. Was good for a quick visit out on our travels.

An ancient wreck amongst the wet grass!
Sep. 2020
Really looked forward to this visit, only to find that most of this edifice had been pillaged to build the nearby Raby Castle! Also, hardly any firm footpaths, causing us to trudge in the rain over acres of wet grass.
