Part of my one day visit

This is in an interesting historical part of the town, and well worth exploring on foot. There are several interesting buildings in the vicinity.

This gate is in the middle of town and is quite unique. There are several Tudor buildings close by that are worth a look. If you're interested in old buildings I would recommend a visit.

A must visit for me as I remember my father explaining why the East Yorkshire buses had a strange domed roof. It was so they could fit under the North Bar

The Bar is the ancient remnant of Beverley's Northern Toll gate, which defined the Northern limit of the town. Inside the city city side of the Bar the bi-annual horse fair was held on the street within the bar while the bi-annual sheep fair was held in the street without the bar. Bars were built in a number of cities... More

As you walk through from Saturday Market, passing St Mary's Church into the Georgian Quarter you will see the only remaining Beverley gate, the North Bar, ahead of you. It was built over six hundred years ago and was one of the four bars or gates that allowed the main roads to cross Beverley's ditch. The town never was walled... More

Whilst dodging the traffic on the way back to our car we paused at this well-described piece of history. There is an informative plaque and it is simply a pleasant pause to reflect on the history of this beautiful, buzzing, classy small town.

Situated at the North end of the town, Beverley's North Bar is also known as the Georgian Quarter. It has a number of independent shops, cafes and restaurants where you are bound to find something a little bit more interesting than the usual High Street fayre. North Bar is where you will find the magnificent St Mary's Church which, in... More

As you can gather from other reviews, this small archway isn't something you would travel miles to see. If you are in the lovely town of Beverley already however, you should certainly pop along. It's not just the fact that this old bar is the only part of the original fortifications left, it's also because it is in a very... More

A wonderful piece of history within the historic town of Beverley well worth a visit and to read about the history on the plaque. Walk through turn left and walk to the wonderful Westwood and onto the Racecourse. Note the Georgian houses on either side of the Bar.
