About
A community run visitor information centre staffed by knowledgable and friendly volunteers. We are open on weekends from April and 7 days a week from June. We can help you to find accommodation, book tickets for attractions and events in and around Callander and provide a wealth of information about the hundreds of outdoor pursuits available in the Trossachs National Park.

We called in here on a day trip asking about maps of walks in the locality.
The lady we spoke to showed us a £1 map and gave us a good run down of walking on offer and the difficulties involved. Needless to say we bought the map and then used it to plan a couple of walks.
I would heartily recommend anybody looking for ideas what to do in and around Callander to visit the Information Centre.

Called into Calander on the way home from holiday for lunch. Popped into the Information centre by chance. Don't know how good they are on the info side of things, however, the shop is currently run by volunteers as the Tourist board pulled out. We chatted to two volunteers who were friendly and I'm sure would have given help/info if we'd needed it. Usual leaflets/souvenirs available.

Well, as we were leaving the Highlands, we drove through this really cool town, Callander, Scotland. We got out and walked around, took some pictures, and then had a couple questions. Inside the Information Center was a wealth of information, a clean restroom, gifts that were not sold anywhere else in the town, and two very kind, helpful ladies. They even let us look for things online since we didn't have access to Wi-Fi elsewhere. We bought lots of stuff in here. You would never know what's beyond those doors otherwise, but go to this town, and go into that Center. Cool stuff, nice people, internet access, wealth of information, and clean restrooms. The town is only a few blocks long. Blink and you'll miss a good find.

While out for a drive yesterday, my husband and I stopped of in Callander for a wonder as it was a lovely sunny day. We popped into the Fudge shop. I found this little shop very over priced and not very friendly. I bought a pack of sweets sour plums, bar of tablet that tastes more like fudge! and very much over priced at £5!! and an ice cream cone with one small scoop of ice cream all at a princely cost of £11. I would definitely think they are robbing the visitors to Callander. If I should stop off again while driving through I will be giving this little shop a miss. After visiting Helensburgh on another lovely day out and stopping for ice cream I will be returning there. Better value for money and staff where also more welcoming.

Very helpful staff who took the time to not only point out places of interest in response to queries but also provided insight on the use of maps v sat nav in the area. Beware sat nav junkies, it works but is not always as accurate in these relatively remote areas as we may be used to in urban environments!

There isn't really all that much you can say about a visitor centre other than to say whether it is good or bad. This one is good and has an excellent selection of books, pamphlets and maps of the local area and further afield. Add a local chap with a passion for the job and a desire to help and you can't go wrong.

The Callander Information Centre is a real gem of information and the staff are both welcoming and have nearly all the answers at their finger tips. They point you in the right direction to quickly find the right shops and how best to enjoy the surrounding area of the Trossochs.
They certainly make a visit to the town of Callander an even more enjoyable experience.

Good advice about town and local area. recommendations for restaurants of quality requested. Good supply of maps , leaflets etc. All you would need from a tourist information office.

We stopped in Callander hoping to learn more about Rob Roy and McGregor clan area. Our search for information became a search for the Information Centre! The old Rob Roy center is closed. A new Scottish Tourism Board storefront is now open on the Main Street. But to find it, we walked up and down, asked locals where it was, followed signs that were painted out and amended, and backtracked. Frustrated, we finally located the purple question mark. Once inside, we were given a brochure. That's it. No verbal help. No recommendations or interesting suggestions. Just a book. This was my big moment in Scotland to find ancestors and I felt really disappointed. FYI, Trip Advisor is more help.

If we don't have a car, what is the best way to see the sites you have listed?
We will need to get to Callandar from Glasgow. Is there a rail system that goes into or by the town and up into the highland?

No problem, glad you are finding the info helpful.
You can travel from Edinburgh or Glasgow to Stirling by rail or bus and then Stirling to Callander by bus or private taxi.
Details are available at travelinescotland online.
This website is very good for planning public transport journeys all over Scotland, and relevant timetables can be printed off by the customer.
Most people walk from Callander Main Street to the area of heather moorland above the Bracklinn Falls car park, a distance of 1 mile, a further circuit can be hiked making it a distance of 3 miles. If mobility is an issue then a private taxi could be hired locally.
The area of the Trossachs can be accessed by a public transport system called Demand Responsive Transport (DRT). This service is booked through our local authority Stirling Council, who will arrange for a private taxi to take the customer to the preferred location, and they will be charged at the bus rate(much less expensive than a taxi fare). This service must be booked at least 24 hours in advance with their office which is open 9.00am till 3.00 pm, Monday to Friday. The phone number is 01786 40 40 40 or book online on Stirling Councils website
If you want a private taxi we can arrange this for you locally when you arrive.

My friend and I are planning a trip to Scotland in August of this year and from what I am reading we like your town and all the B&B's plus all the sites from there to get to.
My Questions:
Can you tell me the best time to come and see all the heather fields in full bloom? How far away from you are they? Any help you can give us would be appreciated.

Really good to read that you are interested in visiting our amazing Country.
Heather is mostly in bloom in the Callander area August and into September.
From Callander town centre the most accessible moor to see heather in the wild is a quarter of a mile walk from the Bracklinn Falls car park, where you will find a huge area of natural moorland.
Nearby to Callander (about 4 miles) on the A821 is an area managed by the Scottish Woodland Trust where heather is also very plentiful, but also easily accessible. This area is known as Glen Finglas, and the best car park would be Lendrick Hill.
As you drive from Callander into the Trossachs on the A821, the section of road after Loch Achray towards Aberfoyle known as the Dukes Pass, also has large areas of natural growing heather at the roadside.

There are dog kennels at Tigh Mor for daytime use according to their website.
We have none in Callander but the nearest are Ardoch Boarding Kennels at Doune 07483 918139, Glendale Boarding Kennels in Alexandria 01389 752318 and Coupans Holiday Homes for Pets in Dunblane 01786 880246.

I can't really think of any other place other than those already mentioned, other than to say that in the past The Dreadnaught hotel have had 'art' weekends with work on sale ( but not noticed any of late ) or if you trawl through the charity shops you never know you may find a wee gem someone has handed in, but not able to offer any more help alas.

Trying to book up for High Tea in the Callendar area. Probably in June for about 50 people. Are they closed at the moment.? We are not getting any response.
