I moved to the Forest of Dean in May, and I can tell you what I have found to be true. This part of the world is so beautiful, there is something new to find every day. So many walks to go on with the family, trees, lakes, a sculpture trail, waymarked and accessible. If you don't like walking, try... More

Didnt see all of this wonderful gem of the forest but what a spectacular place even in the midst of winter its quite spell binding...feels cut off in a good way from 21st century..dont expect internet...supermarkets etc..as you wont find these here this is a magic glade, of places, trees and hidden gems to be explored.. Canoeing from Ross to Symonds Yat with a cold beer and great food at Saracens Head. there are miles of trail works and nice river walks pretty flat all the way to Monmouth. I'm fairly local Gloucester and this is one of my favourite places. River tours from Symonds Yat on large river cruiser. Campsite on site and 3 miles... More

If you enjoy walking, beautiful scenery, friendly locals & nature, this is the place to go. The forest is immense & we went to the bonfire & fireworks display in the forest, which was fab. Luckily we followed someone who knew where they were going as i think we would have struggled with our satnav. I fell in love with... More

I can't think of anywhere else in the country where you can find everything you need for a perfect day out, long weekend or an extended break all within 100 square miles. Lying between the beautiful Wye and Severn rivers you can walk or cycle through unspoiled countryside either on challenging terrain or on family friendly waymarked routes. Canoe down... More

Spent a weekend in the nearby Speech House in order to enjoy the Forest of Dean. There are a huge variety of walks and cycle routes. As walkers, we felt outnumbered by cyclists on certain paths, so had to ensure we chose walker only routes. It's worth while buying a walking book of the area to do so. We only... More

Stunning colours at this time of year. Rich in wildlife- deer, boar etc. Plenty of decent solid tracks for running, walking, cycling. Pay and display car parks although you can find plenty of places to park for free

Have been on both steam days and diesel days. Very enjoyable. Staff very attentive. Nothing too much trouble. Very pleasant ride through the forest with a cafe or pub meal available at or near most stations. Many happy memories of our trips.
