We love the Tanfield, the volumteers are passionate, the train is wonderful and the views simply stunning. HIghly recommended for young and old alike.

The kids loved the steam train but beware of leaning out of the windows - soot in the eye hurts!

now the lads are older don't get to ride the steam train anymore but used to love it and i know it sells out for the santa specials

Hi, the carriages dont have heating so if you wear PJs i'd recommend wearing your clothes underneath :). There used to be a polar express at the Weardale Railway where people wore PJs but that had heated carriages.

I think the bate approach should be made via the railway - or go to the railway, have a trip and go to the tea room and ask there.
