Good information for a small town

A great place to visit if you are a Grant or doing genealogy for the Grant family, otherwise give it a miss. The staff were very helpful in giving advice on other places to visit in the locality if you are not a Grant!.

The Grantown museum is a local initiative and does well to present a thoughtful reflection of the history of the town. The establishment of the settlement by John Grant is well explained. The main limiting factor after that is the paucity of exhibits. I came with my wife's family as they are from the town, and found that it held... More

It's a small museum by any standard but worth a visit if you're interested in the history of the immediate area

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Museum in Grantown. First of all the building it is in is interesting in its own right, being originally a school. The lady on duty could not have been more welcoming, friendly, and informative. It is a small museum but extremely well laid out with interactive displays, a video of the origins of... More

We found this museum by default whilst travelling. Entrance fee is £4 per adult, but it all helps the local community. Quite small but a good insight into past life in the town. There is a short video and a couple of rooms of storyboards and exhibits. There are toilets inside and the museum is wheelchair friendly.

Bit disappointed this visit as it did not have a temporary exhibition on but it has just had a face lift so is looking very nice

Well organized and fun to visit for history of the village. Museums in Scotland are free-a very nice amenity.

We paid £4 each to enter the museum. There was a very short video about Grantown which cut off mid story. There was little else to look at - a few storyboards. One big room was empty apart from a few storyboards and photos. I don't usually grumble about paying for attractions but this one was not worth the money!

this is a little gem of a place. Very digestible info, even if you're not a fan of museums give this a try.

Certainly not the largest museum in the world, but certainly one of the most informative. We booked a talk from a local expert, & he was excellent. In an hour we had a potted history of, not just Speyside, but of Scotland in general. The thoroughly Scottish gentleman who gave the talk was not just well informed, the most friendly... More
