Unexpected monument, information boards and worth a look if somewhat out of the way, in rather an industrial area.

As a young boy our family would take annual holidays in Great Yarmouth staying in a static caravan on the South Denes site. While visiting again with my granddaughter thought I would revisit South Denes and see what the area looks like fifty five years...More

It's a monument, pretty much all really. A massive concrete column built in memory of Admiral Nelson, now surrounded by dilapidated industrial units. Some good myths and old wives tales behind this. One story goes that, the designer asked it to be built facing out...More

Hard to find, but worth the effort. The monument is tucked away in the old quayside, best accessed via the promenade road (travel South from the centre)

It's interesting to discover Nelson's ties to Norfolk and Great Yarmouth, and this monument is worth a visit if you're interested in history. Unfortunately this landmark is located well within the industrial estate, which takes away some of its charm.

An interesting monument to Nelson. The information around it is very informative as is the picture of the column when it was built. It shows it was built next to the sea. Now it quite a way from the sea shore. Probably why the industrial...More

This monument to Nelson was paid for by the people of Norfolk. Located here as this was the centre of navy activity in Norfolk at that time. The locals seem to have taken to Nelson in a big way, even though he was born in...More

On drive from the end of the port we saw the monument so went for a look. Weather was not good so drove round and read the boards then googled when we got back to our caravan. Was very impressive but in a strange place.

I'd asked my husband ( who's from Norfolk) to take me to see some things I'd never heard of on our few days away. The Nelson monument was one of them. It's amazing, and there are really good interpretation boards around it, designed for both...More
