Beautiful old house

What a lovely old building. It was great to be able to go inside this grand old lady. The gardens were beautiful too.

A lovely minature estate, best known for Anne Lister, whose notorious coded diaries were found behind a wall panel. She'd have fit right in to the Hebden Bridge zietgeist, maybe a hundred years too soon though. A 'great house' rather than a stately home, and it's a pity her 'Norman Tower' addition can't be accessed. Still a great place to... More

It is a relatively small place but especially interesting because the original 15th century property has been developed and added to which increases its appeal. The people who work there are very enthusiastic and eager to share their knowledge which, in the case of the lady we spoke to, was extensive as she both worked and volunteered there! There is... Unlike some stately homes and mansions, this is a house you could actually picture yourself living in. The main house is just lovely, and the volunteer guides are very informative. The outbuildings are fun and give a great picture of how life was

We walked over from Shibden Mill Inn and sadly couldn't stay longer. Our visit started with the lovely walk from The Lodge down the original drive to the hall. On arrival the lady issuing tickets was really helpful as was the guide inside the building. There is so much to see we were quite surprised, love and attention to detail... More

We visited and toured the house. It was a lot smaller than I'd imagined and is the opposite of the TARDIS. I.e big on the outside but smaller on inside. The volunteers are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. We didn't get to explore the grounds as it was cold and my partner is partially disabled and couldn't walk far.
