Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The walk around Loch Leven is about 13 miles long. It has a great path all the way around, which a pram, bike, or wheelchair would most likely be okay to travel around the whole way (note, we travelled by foot without a pram or wheelchair, however we did see a lot of prams and bikes). Most of the paths are wide enough for people to comfortable pass each other, and the ones that aren't then people can easily move to the side a little into the bushes to give way to other people.
There's quite a few places to park around the walk, so you can start at quite a few points.
Overall, the walk was a little disappointing because for quite a lot of it you can't see the loch, and a lot of the walk looks quite similar (a wooded path). So there's not much variety, which I find quite important for a walk of that length. You do get great views of the surrounding mountains, but again these are the same mountains for the entire walk.
I'd recommend for anyone just looking for some exercise, or somewhere accessible for that length of walk. However I believe there's probably more interesting walks to follow.
Food is available at a few points around the loch, but there's quite a few miles in between these facilities.

We were in this area with my parents and although my husband, father and I wanted to walk the whole route, it was too much for my mother but this isn't a problem as there are quite a few places you can park and enjoy a walk.
If you can't walk far the best place to park is near where the boat departs for Loch Leven castle (not operating while we were there in June) as you have a lovely flat walk along the Loch shores to the old graveyard and church as well as getting the best views of the castle on the island, where Mary, Queen of Scots escaped from.
Then you just turn and walk back.
There are clean toilets in the free car park here too.

I did this walk with my friend and she ended up getting a lift back home halfway through as she couldn't manage. You aren't by the loch much of the time so the pretty views aren't common. There are places you could stop for something to eat, for example, loch leven larder. If i had to do this again I would cycle it and bring a picnic for stopping. There were thousands of midgies which was very annoying and part of the fishing bit was closed so i had to do a 0.3mile detour through a village. Only benefit was we saw red squirrels in the wooded areas and the views from RSPB lookout were lovely

Bit puzzled by some reviews. OK, we didn't go all the way round but the walk is far from boring. There is plenty to see even without a direct view of the loch in terms of bird life and farm animals and others walkers! True watch out for bikers as we share the paths but on our trek, they were all polite and careful and used their bells to warn of an approach. We were lucky with a day of cracking weather and warm sunshine (out of the wind.)

This walk has been on my bucket list for a while. The path is well surfaced and does not require walking boots. Also, the route is flat for virtually the whole way, so it suits all levels of fitness (although some might struggle with the full 13 miles). There are toilets and cafes en route. It is a combined walking/cycling path and this generally works well. We saw more cyclists on the circuit than walkers.
I have to say that I found the second half of the walk (we walked clockwise from the main car park at Kinross) just a bit tedious apart from the wetland diversion. The scenery is quite 'samey' and you hardly get a glimpse of the loch at all. In fact, you might be disappointed if you imagine that you're going to be walking beside the loch for the whole duration of the circuit. It's just not like that.
Overall, I enjoyed the walk and I'm glad I did it. Would I do it again? Probably not.

Get rid of the cyclists or limit them to certain times of the day. A lovely area to walk in with some gorgeous scenery but spoiled by ignorant cyclists who expect walkers to move aside every two minutes to let them past. The path is narrow & anyone walking with dogs or children are put at risk by arrogant cyclists who think they own the path (not all of course but a good proportion). On the road cyclists have right of way because they are deemed more vulnerable than people in cars. Well, on paths used as walking routes the walkers are more vulnerable than those on a cycle. They should be made to stop & wait on walkers/dogs passing. Whoever, is responsible for the area should have a long hard look at how cyclists ruin the enjoyment for others.

We did a round the loch walk today 20 km or so. The walk from the visitor centre car park to the sluice cut and river is really good, it’s varied with lots of diversity of trail experience and landscape. The next stage walk from the sluice back to the nature trail however is not nearly as good. The trails are unnaturally straight, often fenced in with little diversity of vegetation or relief from the compacted stone track. It is great that there is a round loch walk now and it is well maintained with some light moments of art and bird hides but we all agreed we couldn’t wait to get that bit over with. The best of the walk is the north and east even if it means returning on the way you came.

Disappointing morning out - we didn’t walk all the way round but the 5 or so miles we did were pretty dull. Fine I guess if you just want to walk but there was little to see in the way is scenery or even loch views. We were also accompanied by just about every midge in the area which was very unpleasant. We had expected to find somewhere to eat but the cafe next to where we parked was closed - annoying on a bank holiday. Oh, and you need 20p for the loo ! Fine if you know in advance but don’t be caught short with no change.

I took a walk from Kinross to the Loch Leven Larder. Beautiful scenery. Good access, well maintained paths on this section. A bicycle looks a good option for the whole route (about 21km). Take some binoculars for the wildfoul.

WE walked at the park end of the trail with our dogs and have done several times when staying at the Travelodge out by the motorway. It is a beautiful place to walk, safe and has excellent parking with clean loos. The council keep it very clean and tidy and there is a wonderful activity park for the children.
Highly recommended.

Hi
Can you tell me please, Is this a circular walk and where does it start (and end)
Thank you
Meg
Written 13 May 2021
Yes it’s a circular route, we started at the car park at the pier but there are a few different parking spots around the trail that you can start from, go to the website for Loch Leven Heritage Trail for details.

Is the walk too much for a dog ?
Written 16 April 2019
We didn't go right round, its a flat walk with various entrances and exits. It all depends how far you want to walk. Most dogs would be perfectly fine.

Does anyone know any information about the abandoned Orwell Church and graveyard along the walk? It's off the main path but looks very interesting. Finding information about it is proving difficult!
Written 12 January 2017
This is the old cemetery for the parish of Orwell. The church was also on this site but it was moved to Milnathort in the seventeen hundreds. Some very old and interesting gravestones.
