Set on the southern shore of the loch, RSPB Scotland Loch Leven nature reserve offers a great day out for families, nature lovers and wildlife watchers alike. Formerly known as Vane Farm, the RSPB bought the reserve in 1967 as a centre for environmental education and it is still a fantastic place for children to explore and discover nature today. Visitors can climb the trail through the woodland to the top of Vane Hill for a spectacular view over the Kinross-shire hills and countryside, or meander down to the wetland trail where three hides allow people to get really close to nature. In the summer, ospreys fish on the loch, and in the winter, thousands of pink-footed geese, swans and ducks make the reserve their home.

My wife and I ordered the soup, I had what was clearly the dross at the bottom of the pot (lentil) was disgusting! Also we ordered the ham salad sandwich, well more of a salad sandwich! Clearly running low on ham as our sandwiches had three pieces of ham no larger than a postage stamp! How on earth is this... More

We are very disappointed that you had such a bad experience in our cafe. We can only assume that instead of saying we were running low, the staff member and volunteer that served you tried to complete the order anyway. Our cafe manager is aware that this action ruined your visit and is very sorry that he was unaware of... More

I called at the cafe at the nature reserve whilst passing on the for a quick bite to eat. I went to the cafe with the intention of ordering a snack to eat outside. There's was little choice for a vegetarian so I opted for a cheese and pesto sandwich. At £4.75, I expected a bit more than I got... More

Hi Christine, I am sad that you were disappointed by your visit to our cafe. Over half our menu is suitable for vegetarians and we also have several options that are suitable for vegans, so I am sorry that you couldn't find anything that you fancied. Our sandwich prices are higher than those you would pay in a service station... More

Had a great time. My son (17) really got into it and looked for birds on the book and loved finding the different species. It was surprising coming from a phone addicted teenager! My other son (3) loved looking for bugs. We caught a centipede a spider and a beetle and let them go. The staff were really welcoming and... More

The best RSPB reserve in Scotland. Cafe, shop, picnic area and well maintained walks. Staff are friendly and there are a wide variety of birds and insects for you to see. Hides are comfy and looked after and you get a good close up view across the site.

My daughter and I had a drive out to here today in the early afternoon. My wife and I actually walked the entire Loch Leven Heritage Trail about a fortnight ago but unfortunately due to the length of the walk never had the time to explore this area, so I was pleased to be able to make a return today.... This lovely place deserves a visit but is too often passed by people whizzing past on the motorway. Surrounded by hills, lovely walks and hides to watch the beautiful wildlife, a lovely walk right round the loch, lots of history..... do visit!

This was a day out with photographers with long lenses. There are three bird hides, all enclosed, for photographers and birdwatchers, dotted all along a what looks like a wheelchair-friendly path. The views are lovely over the water and there were a number of different birds today - egrets, swans, pinheads, other ducks, lapwings and gulls, finches, sparrows (including the... More

This was a first visit and, not knowing what to expect, was pleasantly surprised. On our visit it was very cold and dull. The welcome by the shop volunteers was very nice and helpful.
