Beautiful Salcombe
Jun. 2021 • Family
Salcombe is a beautiful place. Great food, stunning views and good shopping. The beaches, of which there are many, are clean and sandy. There are no chain fast food restaurants or fun fairs to spoil the beauty.
It's a bit expensive but this keeps it exclusive.
Taxis are hard to come by so make sure you book well in advance Totally Taxis 07542 626545, Clark Cars 01548 842914 and Inhope Taxis 07719 730428 are the main operators. They provide a great service but get overwhelmed during the peak season, remember, this is not a city but a seasonal seaside town.
There are glorious coastal walks.
A visit to the gin factory on Island St. is a must!

Love Salcombe, always look forward to returning.

Beautiful but a lot of hassle to visit
Jun. 2021 • Couples
You can stroll along sections of the harbour and the views are lovely. Plenty of benches if you want to sit and admire the view. But parking is very difficult due to the shortage of car parks and narrow streets. And when you do find a spot and go for a stroll, it’s very busy and don’t feel covid safe.

Quarter Deck Sunny Cliff Appointment
Jun. 2021 • Couples
Our stay at the Toad hall cottages Quarter Deck Sunny Cliff Appointment was not very enjoyable. 4 of us. Payed £1,500 to stop in this apartment with a fantastic panaramic view of the estuary. Which is what you were paying for. The apparentment was full of cobwebs and spiders. Doors wouldn't shut. Shower leaked In the one bedroom. Saturating the floor. Plug fitting loose. Brown stains on the tiles in the other shower and a loose panel. Which i caught my foot on. Not enough plates and bowls for 4 people. Wood surround around kitchen cupboard coming off. Fire and safety, heath and safety. Gas check, pipe check out of date in info folder by up to 2 years. Only enough space for 1 car. So the nearest over night stay car park is right across the other side of town which is a good 20 min walk away and £8 a day. With no offer of a free pass but they expect you to pay and sleep for 4. Not impressed.

A pretty harbour BUT….
Jun. 2021
A pretty harbour, that takes 5 minutes to walk around, but that’s about it. Parking is a problem and unless the park & ride is running (it wasn’t on the day we went). We drove round a few times and, luckily having a small car, we found a free 2hour parking space.

I got the impression the the place is snooty, judging by the unfriendly reception we received in some of the shops. They clearly didn’t want our common as muck money.

If you have to pay for parking I’d go somewhere else, Dartmouth, for example, worth the parking fee.

Unimpressed & disappointed will not return.

Highly overrated
May 2021 • Couples
I have visited this area of Devon on many occasions & loved it but normally stay in Hope cove, slapton or Bee sands.
On this holiday we were limited for choice due to availability so ended up booking a lovely cottage situated higher up in Salcombe. Fab views.
The coastal walks & beaches are lovely btw but a bit of a walk along roads to reach on foot.
All was going well until we decided to walk to the town.
This wasn’t a nice experience I found the locals stare & walk into you (during the pandemic!) & shop workers really rude/unpleasant. It’s very expensive & the only decent coffee I had all week was a Costa from a service station on the way down. My husband went into the Roly fudge shop & said their attitude was one of indifference & they couldn’t care less. This was common place in other shops too.
During our week we walked into town twice & each time was as creepy as the next so we decided to avoid the place entirely.
Honestly, it’s a nice place but the people spoil it. Sorry Salcombe you’re not that great, get a reality check.
There’s plenty of other places to visit just as nice & even nicer so shall avoid coming here again.

Busy harbour
Apr. 2021 • Couples
We loved Salcombe so much we visited for 2 days in a row. The first day we parked in Shadycombe car park but this only allows 3 hours then you have to leave and is rather busy, so the next day we found Snapes Point car park, where you can park for free, if a National Trust member, or it costs £3 for all day. It is about a 40 minute walk in, the scenery is stunning. The harbour itself is very busy and lots of places to eat, shops and public toilets. Could do with more parking though. Salcome is such a lovely place overlooking the estuary and so much to do.

Avoid
Oct. 2020
Visited Salcombe last weekend. Somebody clearly not in their right mind decided to close the park and ride, big deal you may say however there are two very small car parks in Salcombe which after driving around a few times we gave up and headed out. We eventually parked in Overbecks and walked the mile into Salcombe - what a waste of time. Some may find Salcombe quaint and it is in parts - but its also full of people who are rude, obnoxious and don't know how to act in these covid days. Wont be returning.

Nice town, rubbish parking
Aug. 2020
We had a visit to Salcombe. It's a nice little town and dog friendly. The walk along cliff road to south sands beach was nice.

The main issue with Salcombe though is parking. The small car park in the town was closed so pubs and restaurants could use it for seating. The other small car park in the town is small and full.

The option was to use the park and ride. However the bus service was suspended, but the parking charge still had to be paid. This meant a 20 minute walk down the steep roads into Salcombe, but the walk back up the steep road is no idea and seriously no good for people with mobility problems. Absolute joke that you have to pay for a service whether you like it or not, but the service doesn't have to be given to you.

What a pity we couldn’t get to see Salcombe
Sep. 2020 • Couples
On our first trip to Salcombe, we were hoping for a walk around the village and then grab a bite to eat.
Sadly, Salcombe was CLOSED!!!!!!!

We had read that parking was difficult in the area, so we decided to use the park and ride.....which was also CLOSED!!!!
We then travelled to the car parks that we located further down the hill in Salcombe. Two of which were also closed.....We were going round in circles, along with a stream of other cars, so we decided to leave.
Salcombe clearly isn’t interested in revenue from visitors.

Get your act together Salcombe, you’re not that posh, that the small businesses can afford to turn custom away.

It is pretty but difficult to visit.
Sep. 2020 • Couples
We would not visit again or recommend worth the trouble in the end. Just too hard to park in village and the park and ride was not running their buses (presume due to CV19). We still parked top hill but the walk to and from the harbour is not for the faint hearted. Sea front is nice and some independent shops to mooch but very touristy and expensive.
