A magical place

If you can see it soaring out of low early morning mist on the river it is even more special. A walk along the river Wye is a great way of getting another viewpoint.

Brilliant visit to Tintern Abbey, I was so impressed with the magnificence of the ruins. The handy guide book (purchased) was very helpful in negotiating my way round the ruins and what each area was for. Wish I'd visit Tintern before. If visiting early or late in the I would suggest a coat as it can get quite cool in... More

The Abbey is impressive from the outside but the sheer size and grandeur from inside is overwhelming. The vastness of the overall Site certainly concentrates the mind but above all it also gives a feeling of peace and serenity. Many comprehensive information boards throughout the Site give excellent details about the Abbey's origin and usage. For a more in depth... More

The Abbey looks impressive enough from the car park but I was overwhelmed by the size and grandeur of it from inside. This would have been such an impressive place when it was built. The vastness of it is awe inspiring and there is enough of it left to allow you to imagine how life would have been lived there... More

Having not been through Tintern in nearly 20 years since I was a little, it was great to stop and have a proper look round. Weather was showers but when the sun came out in between we were able to get some great photos. I have a Cadw membership through a work club I joined and got in free well... More

It is 45 years since our last visit and I had forgotten how impressive this site is. Large car park, pay £3 which is refunded as part of entry cost, which is about £5 each. The information boards tell you most of what you need to know about the Abbey's origin and usage. The inevitable shop sells diverse products, including... More

Lovely place to spend an afternoon wandering round, take a walk round the woods on the other side of the river for some amazing views of the Abbey from above

Well maintained tourist attraction that is well worth a visit. Decent parking and an informative visitor centre/shop. Cadw member discounts available. Nearby tea shop doesn't cater for gluten free unfortunately. Allow a couple of hours to get maximum benefit. Much of it is exposed to the elements so go prepared.

Great setting of a lovely ruin. Lots of things to see, follow the drains across the complex for an idea of the luxury in which the monks lived. Just enough information boards. Pay to park but the money is taken off of your entrance fee (AND in the local pub!!!). It was a lovely sunny Sunday when we went so... More

A large pay and display car park is immediately adjacent to the abbey entrance. The abbey ruins are very well laid out with simple but informative boards explaining exactly what each location was and how it fitted in with the rest of the site. It is a place to wander as well as to learn. Set between a hillside and... More
