Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

All that is left of the Castle, is the mound, and a gateway, they do re-enactments, which are very good. Well worth a visit.

Visiting Bedford, stopped off to explore what remains of Bedford Castle.
Large grassy mound castle ruins overlooking the river.
Nice quiet area with seating and nice river views.

Apparently this was the site of Bedford Castle in days gone by. Now it really is only a grass mound on the same site.

There's really not a lot to see, but you might as well go if you are in Bedford. I mean, who knew that Bedford even had a castle at one time. It's next to the Swan hotel and seems a very pleasant out door space, overlooking the river. Worth a quick five minute wander.

If you are hoping to see a historic castle in Bedford you will be disappointed however it is worth visiting the mound and learning more about the early history of the town,
There are also lovely views from the top of the mound of the river and it is a really nice place to have a picnic with benches dotted about.

We booked the pub to raise money for charity, an excellent buffet was provided at a reasonable price per head and so delicious! The staff were so helpful and unknown us arranged a raffle to raise money for our charity. I have eaten there on many occasion and the Sunday roast is well worth the money and really good too. I would recommend this pub not only for the live entertainment and delicious food but the staff are friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome, thank you for having us and live coming to your pub!

This is the site of a castle built sometime after 1100 by King Henry I, and ordered destroyed by Henry III in 1224. It is historically significant, but there is really not much left.

This is a small representation of what used to be on this spot. The town has done a good job of showing what used to be there, by making the castle mound accessible to people and by creating displays telling about the siege of the castle and the history of the castle during Saxon and Norman times. You can see ruins of the castle foundation nearby at the back of The Swan Hotel, between that and Spaghetti John's restaurant.
