The Hepworth Wakefield is Yorkshire's award-winning gallery designed by David Chipperfield Architects which opened to the public in May 2011. The UK's largest purpose-built gallery in over 50 years, we celebrate the achievements of one of Britain's most significant sculptors, Barbara Hepworth, in the city in which she was born and raised.

As well as the Hepworth Family Gift, a unique collection of Hepworth's working models gifted to Wakefield through the Art Fund, the gallery also holds the collection of the former Wakefield Art Gallery. Alongside collection displays, we also present a regularly changing programme of contemporary exhibitions by world-renowned artists as well as offering award-winning family and learning activities for all ages, a cafe bar and shop - a perfect day out for all the family. Free admission all year round.

With this fascinating homage to Barbara Hepworth the Bilbao Effect reaches Wakefield. The building itself is, in a word, stunning. Rising, quite literally, out of the River Calder, the gallery blends seamlessly into the post-industrial landscape of this historic Yorkshire city. The approach to the building crosses the Calder, and it is from this vantage point that one can really... More

Not much to say really, rocked up, walked around and looked at the exhibits, very pleasant! Somewhere good to go in Winter.

Great art children can come and get a backpack and do mini sculptures like sowing and look at the art and be amazed by how much art there is

We had two posh fish finger sandwiches here at the cafe on Valentine's Day during our visit to the gallery. These sandwiches are absolutely incredible. The fish fingers were divine, the fish holding the crispy tasty batter wonderfully. They are served with chips which were also very tasty and perfectly cooked. The homemade tartare sauce was also the perfect accompaniment.... More

Thank you for your fantastic feedback about the fish finger sandwich. We agree! We are launching a new menu in March but don't worry, the fish finger sandwich will still be on there. Hope to welcome you back again soon. More

Sadly disappointed with the full experience. Nothing of interest for young children and the staff were seemingly absent for any help or questions.

Finding myself in Wakefield for a couple of hours, I decided on a visit to The Hepworth. Car parking is across the River Calder from The Hepworth and well signposted. My parking cost £5. The museum is accessed via a designated grey pedestrian bridge. Entry to The Hepworth is free. It's worth a visit to see the Hepworths and Moore... More

Really good art gallery, nice pieces to look at, only spent a couple of hours here though. The architecture is a bit strange, but I surpose it's something different. I would recommend going here but I would only go once every few years I think.
