- chelseablue-11London, United Kingdom71 contributionsPoole boat tripTook boat trip from Poole harbour. Very informative. Captain gave loads of information as we passed interesting places. Brown sea island, sandbanks etc. boat trip isn’t weather dependent as seating inside and out. Great way to see some sights and spend a some time finding out more about local area. We pre booked.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 March 2024
- The_Concierge_8Trinidad and Tobago3,791 contributions2nd largest harbour in the world & its shallow! Great vistas all around! The best way to appreciate it is by boat tour!Absolutely loved this harbour (2nd largest NATURAL harbour in the world after Sydney, Australia). From the quayside promenades, watching the twin sails bridge opening and closing and taking a Greenslade boat tour to see various historical sites and places of interest to Sandbanks and the protected RSPB sites (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) and Brownsea island, this harbour is very special indeed. And weirdly it is only 1 meter deep at its deepest point so have reduced fear about drowning if fall overboard on any of the ferries. The waters are relatively calm even in high winds.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 April 2024
- Vacation08087132117London, United Kingdom10 contributionsNice for a day trip with little onesQuaint harbour town front not bogged down by arcades and tourist trouble. Smaller than you'd expect but includes very, very small sandy/pebbly area perfect for shell collecting and crab catching. Some nice pubs and a nice very small old town area. If you want a safer feeling coastal trip avoid Bournemouth and come here, from here you would then be able to visit Sandbanks, Brown sea Island, Bournemouth (if you so wish) Swansea and more.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 August 2024
- S P21 contributionsBeautiful views and flat walkingPark at the Baiter Park car park (fees) and stroll along the harbour path, which is flat, well made and about 20 minutes away from the Harbour centre if you're stopping taking photos along the way! It's much bigger than Chichester Harbour, it's very wide and you can see Sandbanks and Brownsea Island, lots of schools of sailing, they had a race on in the late afternoon, of Mirrors, Corniche Crabbers and Lasers, it was gorgeous to see all the coloured spinnakers. There's a strip of lovely cafes and pubs overlooking the start of the marina and its not tacky at all, although I personally would get rid of the kids fairground wheel, it spoils the sea front as its not old world Victorian. It definitely worth visiting on a warm sunny day and we spent 3 hours here just watching the boats from the restaurant.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 August 2024
- maustin1984Norfolk, United Kingdom108 contributionsPoole Harbour - DorsetPoole Harbour is highly recommended if you are looking to take a break and have a bite to eat & drink or alternatively jump on a boat to see the local are. Pool Harbour has a good variety of places to eat and drink while also offering a good variety of shops. Poole Harbour also provides a good variety of boat trips including a boat trip to visit Browsea Island. From the harbour there is plenty of boats to see from the waters edge while during the summer months in Poole Harbour and along The Quay events like sailing competitions, vintage car rallies & fireworks displays are often organised. If you are looking for a costal area to visit Poole Harbour is highly recommended.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 September 2024

We had a weeks holiday in Poole and on our five visits to Poole harbour we found that the people visiting didn't know what social distancing meant. We saw people walking into Tesco with no masks and not been challenged, in one cafe where tables were set out 2m apart the staff allowed people to move the tables so they could get more sun! You wonder about people ho disobey the rules and members of staff who turn a blind eye....heaven forbid if by these actions or lack of actions that anyone should catch covid 19. We did go to other towns such as Swanage but for some reason these arrogant people visiting or living at Poole think these rules were not meant for them!!!

Poole Quay was once a "go to" destination for us. We have visited on may occasions, taken friends and family on day trips there and bought on pottery dinner service, still much prized and used after many many years.
So when we visited last weekend, we were shocked by the changes since we last visited. What was once a quay with interesting shops full of quality goods is now devoid of character with just pubs and restaurants. Gone are the quaint shops we loved to browse.
At one end a relatively new high rise block of flats now houses the largest Pavers outlet show store we've come across - all totally out of character with the original quaint quay. Past two food outlets, there is a windy tunnel under the building to some partially working public toilets which look as if they've been in use for 30 years without maintenance. Whoever designed this arrangement should be fired.
You may be able to get a nice boat trip but there are lots of more pleasant places that you can go for that.
Whoever is responsible for those toilets should take a look at some of the other places nearby where they manage clean working toilets that don't require a fight with a wind tunnel to get to.
We won't be rushing back.

We can say it was our favourite destination. The houses around are full of character, the view of the boats around is stunning . Great place to spend the evening and have nice fish and chips too. There are day cruises available from here too. It wasn’t easy to park, but if you drive around you will find something.

There is nothing much at the ferry port apart from a small cafe and toilets. More problematic is the journey by car to catch your ferry. Whilst Dover, Portsmouth and Newhaven are served by A roads or motorways the journey to Poole is through built-up areas and heavy traffic. So allow plenty of time. There is a swing bridge connecting the ferry terminal to Poole town if you have time but otherwise there is nothing to do in the ferry area. However when on the ferry there are great views of Poole Harbours, Brownsea island and Sandbanks.

We visited recently on our holiday for my daughter to go crap fishing. We had a lovely few hours even if we only caught a handful of crabs. The place was buzzing with lots of people doing the same and everyone was really friendly. Definitely a visit if you are in the area.

To start with, the sunset, looking from Sandbanks harbourside road across the harbour towards Poole, is the one of the most beautiful you'll see anywhere. Poole harbour is the 2nd largest natural harbour in the world, (I believe Sydney is the largest). Apart from the main channel into the ferry terminal & freight port, the majority of the harbour is very shallow, not unusual to see windsurfers in the harbour during the summer months, boat trips from Poole quay out to the Solent & to Brownsea island in centre of the harbour, are very popular, or if you like, a walk around the harbourside for photo opportunities is worth doing. I thoroughly recommend a visit to this beautiful, natural place.

We walked down around here whilst visiting friends. We saw everyone crabbing and decided to give it a go! We purchased a full crabbing kit with bait from a lovely gentleman near the lifeboat station. Very well priced :) We then spent the next few hours enjoying our first crabbing experience! We caught over 10 crabs and a few little fish. We put them all back safely afterwards. Would definitely recommend this experience :)

No idea how lovely this town is - absolutely charming and can only get better as things start to open again.
Lots of interesting places to eat , drink have coffee and cake and see
Building gs date back to 1330 and older!
They have maintained their beautiful historic buildings with pride and purpose and allowed the modern areas to develop as with style . There are great public parks with fantastic playgrounds long promenade walks by a seascape that changes daily .
Poole is perfect !

We’ve been to Poole before and always enjoyed our visits, but this time it was marred by the construction work being carried out. The toilets are disgusting - out of 5 gents toilets only 2 had toilet roll holders. Only one had a toilet roll, plus there were no means of locking the door in that one. Effectively, none were in a usable state. The Ladies was not much better either. I certainly hope these problems are addressed before next season.

Would like to visit Poole for the day, the harbour, beach and shops etc. Where would it be best to park?
Written 28 July 2021
We parked at the Sip car park just outside the harbour, about a 5 to 10 min walk in to the harbour, we found this to be the cheapest car part at £3 for 12 hours
We used it when we caught the ferry brownsea Island
Post code to sip car park BH15 1EX
Enjoy

Hi, visiting next weekend with my boyfriend and planning on walking from Bournemouth and finishing in Poole. Would it be best to go via sandbanks and then the ferry? Would it be worth going to brownsea island? Not sure if we should plan a whole day half a day and end with dinner and drinks in Poole harbour. Any suggestions welcome! Thanks in advance 😁

Long way to walk, but lovely I guess if you go through the Chines. Ferry now closed, so you can only dive round to get to Studland bay. Suggest The Guildhall Tavern as a fab place to eat in Poole Quay area.
