Overview
More
Owned by the National Trust, Brownsea Island is dramatically located in Poole Harbour, with spectacular views across to the Purbeck Hills. Thriving natural habitats - including woodland, heathland and a lagoon - create a unique haven for wildlife, such as the rare red squirrel and a wide variety of birds, including dunlin, kingfishers, common and sandwich terns and oystercatchers. The Outdoor Centre invites you to come and follow in the footsteps of Lord Baden-Powell and the very first Scouts who camped here in 1907. Scout and Guide Groups can camp and get stuck in with activities such as archery and low ropes and we also offer Eco Adventure Camping as an opportunity for the general public to come and experience the great outdoors. The perfect day's adventure - this island wildlife sanctuary is easy to get to but feels like another world from the moment you step ashore.

Despite visiting this area many times, the Island was a first for me and I'd love to go again. We had a perfect day for the trip, with not a cloud in the sky so the sea crossing was exceptionally calm. Travelling with an elderly...More

We took a group of 30 Beavers for a day trip to Brownsea. There are lots of organised trails as well as many places you can walk and explore by yourself. The island is so peaceful with plenty of natural beauty. It’s owned by the...More

Visited via ferry whilst on holiday. Wear good walking shoes. Amazing wildlife to be see. If you keep your eyes open. NT Cafe on site too. Ferries run every 30 minutes. Better to visit on a dry day.

Luckily we went when it's relatively quiet. Lovely walk, smell of forest and pine. Not sure I would love it so much when it's busy!

Really interesting history to learn about although would have liked more detailed info boards at points throughout the island. The peacocks are an amazing sight. Great for nature lovers. We were lucky to see a red squirrel. The natural play area looked great fun for...More

Fascinating visitor centre with history of the island. Lovely walk around the island with great views and information boards at various points. Bonus when we even managed to see and take a photo of a red squirrel.

This is a lovely place to 'get away from it all'. We saw very few people on our wander round the island. There appear to be an abundance of peacocks scattered around the island but we didn't see any red squirrels. It's very easy to...More

No dogs allowed. You could consider Studland, great beach, parking, NT cafe etc and a favourite for Dog walkers. Either take the chain link ferry from Sandbanks, or drive the longer route via Corfe Castle.

Google national trust - Brownsea, prices page is there. You will also need ferry prices - the link is: brownseaislandferries (all one word) - check opening days though.
