- 3vic1980Halesowen, United Kingdom59 contributionsLove the OrmeLove the Great Orme, we were staying part way up in a holiday cottage and spent a lot of time walking up and around the Orme. Lovely views, baby seals! Good signs for footpaths! Fossils and goats to spot too!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 October 2023
- Sarah MBirmingham, United Kingdom77 contributionsModerate walk with dog friendly breakfastFantastic views! The cafe at the summit 😝 is closed in November so remember to take a drink. We started our walk in Llandudno town. Popped into The Ormo Lounge for a lovely full English which we could eat inside with the dog. Then a wander down to the pier and spotted some steps and the oh thought that looked fun..... up we go. I advise walking up the road like normal people 😂 The gardens on the way up to ski centre are lovely and the dog enjoyed a quick pond drink. Watch out for the goats and sheep keep the dog on the lead. Then the climb starts. A nice view over the ski centre which looks well worth a visit. Sledges too ❤ We followed the signs for the church and did a circular route along the coast path, past the church, up to the great Orme and back down the Colway side. I would rate the walk moderate and it took 2 hours but I love a selfie and a bench.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 November 2023

- Les MConnah's Quay, United Kingdom90 contributionsGreat views but expensive to park.We often go to Llandudno and went again yesterday. When in Llandudno we tend to go up the Great Orme via the Marine drive which costs £5-50. IMO that's rather expensive however, you do get to park for free at the summit. If you drive to the summit by the alternative route it costs nothing however to park at the summit it's £5-50 to park for 4 hours. Most people only stay an hour or 2 so why not charge to park by the hour like most car parks in Wales? I havecdocked it a star because of these charges.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 April 2024
- Beth BBel Air, Maryland123 contributionsCable Car Provides the Best View! What a wonderful overlook of the town of Llandudno and both sides of the Great Orme. We took the cable car both up and down, it was completely worth it! Just make sure you bring cash as credit cards were not accepted. The Cable extends farther and provides a much better aerial view than the train line up.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 May 2024
- Catherine S11 contributionsGreat Orm.My partner and I visited the Great Orm while on holiday in Llandudno. We walked up the Great Orm but very steep to walk up .Should of used the special Great Orm tram instead. Which I would recommend to others. I wish we would have used the tram. The view from the top is worth seeing though once at the top ( Beautiful).Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 June 2024
- Michael BWakefield, United Kingdom492 contributionsA must do in Llandudno!Visited Llandudno a few times and never been up the Great Orme for various reasons, bad weather, insufficient time, other priorities etc. so determined to make it on our 3 day trip here. Glad we did, the views from the tram ride were superb as we were blessed with sunny weather. There are a few things to do at the summit, cafe, information rooms, mini golf etc. but it's really all about the ride and the views.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 June 2024
- marchilesOxford, United Kingdom60 contributionsWell worth a visit views stunning and so glad I didn't have a second breakfast!Went on the Tramway history of the Tramway at halfway station then up to the top to the visitors centre which was well set-up would have had a walk around to island, but 40mph winds deterred us, maybe next time. Got off at the halfway station and went to the Bronze Age Copper Mines. Visitors centre great very informative, history - changing view of Bronze Age Man. Went through the mine; so glad I didn't have a second breakfast. Viewed experimental archology, making copper bronze age man style. Just Great!Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 July 2024

We visited the gift shop and visitor centre. The cafe and ice cream hut were open. We went back down by local bus saw the goats on the side of the Orme and enjoyed beautiful views of the town and pier going downVisited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 15 July 2024
- LizYork, United Kingdom21 contributionsA must when visiting LlandudnoI walked up and down, route through Haulfre gardens on the way up which were lovely with a nice cafe. Even if you get transport up I recommend walking the trail around the summit if not too windy, gorgeous purple heather out at the moment. Came back down through Happy Valley gardens, good way to earn your fish n chips!Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 3 August 2024

I drove the Maritime drive toll road and visited the summit. Some lovely views from the summit; we got to witness a lovely sunset. We visited the restaurant, canteen would be more accurate though, standard fare as you would expect, food under light bulbs and sandwiches in the fridge, maybe not the best the best value for larger groups and families. There is a bizarre run down looking bar which seemed to attract zero business and also the largest collect of tourist information leaflets that you have ever seen as well as an impressive but strangely irrelevant collection of Alien and Predator sculptures. Odd to say the least.

Enjoyed the experience but on a hot day the one and half hour queue was uncomfortable. Did not help that toilet facilities on site had been condemned. To be fair a kind lady attendant did walk through the queue advising estimated wait time and kept us informed, promising to get us sat on the station platform as soon as possible. Max number of passengers on each team reduced to 24 due to Covid restrictions. Tickets can only be purchased at the town end of line not from top.

Cash only on the cable car, prepare to queue, it's worth it though, 2 adults per cable car but the ride up is lovely. Amazing views at the top- just breathtaking! A game of crazy golf at the top is now our tradition. Lots of fun at any age. All the staff are nice and friendly. If you like ice cream get one at the bottom of the Great Orme in the cafe, it's the best ice cream I've ever tasted! 😊 Don't forget to the mines, so interesting!

Dog friendly cafe at the top of the Orme, with crazy golf as a new attraction if a little expensive at £5 each. If you pay to go up the toll road remember you do not have to pay to park as well, your toll ticket includes this. Great play area for children which is free. There are usually grazing livestock around so keep your dog on a lead. Great area for small kite flying or bubbles just blow themselves in the breeze. Take a top layer cos it can be very blowy up there or cream up in the summer months.

Drove up to The Great Orme, twisty roads but great views. Didn't get the tram, it looked too busy. Got to the top it was really busy, we really only wanted to stay a little while but the car park did not cater for an hour or two, minimum payment was around £5.20 I think (we still paid though). Thought about going on the cable car but could not see pricing for it, also not sure if you could get a return and come straight back or have to queue at the other end, the queue was quite long. Someone also told us that if the weather changes or gets windy etc it can stop at any time, so you could be stuck at the top or bottom, therefore in the end we didn't bother. Great views but very busy, queues for everything.

Third visit to North Wales our friend drove us around Llandudno and then onto the Great Orme. We drove first upto the toboggan run area & dry ski slope. Great fun for families & teenagers. Lovely Austrian ski lodge set up as a cafe / bar. We left there looking at pretty gardens on the way down. Then we ventured on the road that wrapped around the outside of the rock and visited the highest peek with a huge carpark / cafe full of cars and people. We stopped to let our dogs have run and drove carefully down hill noting the local mine on the way. We then visited the other cafe which looked out to the West, the Isle of Man could be seen as it was a clear day. Coffee was superb, sadly no toilets available which is rather tricky when they serve drinks. Little social distancing was in place, masks were worn. We carried on our journey spying the white mountain goats on the top of the great Orme. We finished our journey with a walk on the nearest beach with the dogs. Great views. Stunning scenery. Lots of walks. Cafes. Peaceful and tranquil.

Have been up the Orme loads of times over the years, but the views are always great on a clear day.
The Summit complex is worth a look, and the wildlife centre is very informative for wildlife and the area in general.
If you use the road to get up there is a small toll charge for cars and motorbikes, and the road is narrow and twisty, but take your time and it's fine. You can walk up but it's quite a hike but nice if you walk through the Happy Valley part. Or of course the tram.

Stunning scenery and wildlife, particulary the botanical side but the human elements in my opinion scar the place, especially the ski slope attraction. Doesn't take much imagination to conjour up the scenario in the local council chamber back in the day. 'Llandudno needs attractions like this so we don't just attract fuddy duddies. All year round attractions, jobs, 21st Century etc. There's plenty of wildlife up there, some just has to move over a bit.'
The cable car building in the Happy Valley looks Stalinist, the centre on top not much better. And weirdly, the cable car doesn't run on windy days i.e. most days.
Refreshingly, there's a lot more talk these days about the need to take landscape and biodiversity issues more seriously. In my experience however, councillors are pretty ambivalent when it comes to wildlife, unlikely to know the difference between a hare and a harebell and few LAs have knowledgeable specialist ecology staff who can say 'Hang on a minute.' So this mini rant is about sensitivity, not spoiling the ship for a ha'pworth of tar and all that. Much as appealing to the masses wins votes, some places are so special they should always remain sacred.

Excellent drive up and nice views. Make sure you pick good weather to enjoy the views. On the top of the great orme there is access to a paid car park, cafe and toilets. The bar was closed.
Overall, nice views.

Exceptional views, seen from a Sightseeing bus tout with a very friendly driver at a very good price. The place at the top near the visitor center was very busy, which is to be expected at this time of the year. I highly recommend to see the Great Orme at least once in your life, especially on the Sightseeing bus tour, which offers the best deal really as one can hop on hop off throughout the day.

Hi can anyone help ? Where do you get the tram and how much please? Also where do you get the cable car and how much please?

Hi you can get the tram from the bottom of the Orme In a place called Church Walks. The Cable Car begins about 100yards from the pier where the gardens are. Hope this helps

Have read on the Internet about midges in North Wales (among other places) In July, are midges or other insects likely to be a problem on Great Orme? Some Internet posts recommend against exposed skin, i.e., long pants and long sleeves; is the problem that bad? Also, I know this is a page about Great Orme, but does the same apply to Snowdonia National Forest and the beach in Llandudno? Thank you very much.
Written 28 January 2023
I have visited Wales most of my life and I have never come across your question re midges…sounds like scare mongering to me…you will probably have more less desirable insects than Wales and the Orme in Canada to be honest…

Can you get the tram up and toboggan down?
Written 4 June 2022
The tram will take you all the way up. Then you can walk part way down to the toboggan but that will not take you all the way down. You would then have to walk down or back up to catch the tram

Will the cafe and crazy golf be open?

We went in half term and the cafe was open. Not crazy golf or trams. Don’t think they open till Easter. Crazy golf at ski centre is a good alternative though.

Is it easy to push a pram around the walkway?
Written 3 February 2020
We pushed a pram around the entire path with no problems - be aware though, there are some areas that have steps and we had to carry the pram up those (at the Western end where the old Penmorfa used to stand

I’d say don’t try it as it’s a bit steep. Take the tram it’s a nice ride to the top and there’s a cafe and toilet.
