About
The cathedral, which was consecrated in 1957, is a double-nave long church in the Gothic style. A 50-metre-high freestanding bell tower culminates in a copper-clad pyramid. The interior of the church contains some lovely stained glass and is richly decorated with Christian symbols and signs. It is the third church to be built on the site. The two first ones burned down, but an old wooden cross and Axel Ender's famous Easter Morning altarpiece were rescued from the flames.

Didn't open until 10 am but a short walk from the cruise terminal and we waited in the rose garden. There is a tall bell tower next door.
Church was free to look inside It's quite plain inside but was incredibly peaceful.

Perhaps if this had been anything other than a day which rained right through from when we got up to when we went to bed I might have felt more charitably inclined to this rating because I'm a big cathedral fan.
But there was no getting away from a thoroughly miserable day spent leaving a dry coach for a wet viewpoint overlooking Molde and 216 snow-capped peaks, none of which we could see because of fog, mist and rain.
By the time we'd come to terms with full price for a wooden building museum less than half open because the Norwegian toursit season was still three weeks away we were pretty grumpy..and pretty desperate.
So after lunch on our cruise ship, P&O's 116,000-tonne Ventura, we wanted to do something which wouldn't make us much wetter than we already were.
A bit of shrewd pedestrian guesswork guided us up from the quay via several sets of steps to the cathedral entrance.
Once inside the long view to the main stained glass window was basic but still impressive.
What really made an impression with us was the little ship model, seemingly hanging in mid-air like some sort of ghostly vessel. Very cleverly done.
Don't expect too much by way of side historical interest such as you get with some cathedrals displaying marble-copper-stone tablets praising the fallen with historical detail of their passing. There was precious little of that but, for all its barreness, there was still something to draw the visitor quietly in to stroll down the central aisle, wondering and looking. Worth a visit.

We took a tour and part of it was Molde Cathedral the first thing that hits you is the striking separate Bell tower. On entry to the Cathedral its very plain in a nice way, they have a nice Alter there is a ship hanging from the ceiling some modern leadlite windows & a very impressive organ. We'll worth 10 - 15 minutes to stop and have a look, no charge to enter & you can take photos.

It was a lovely church with some good stained glass and worth a visit if you are passing. It has a traditional votive ship inside. Its easy to find, right in town.

Exterior architecture is beautiful and the inside is calming and serene. My father was baptized in the original prior to WWII and this is the rebuilt cathedral styled after the original - a wonderful visit to a beautiful sanctuary!

Since it was a Sunday morning on our port time in Molde, we were not able to go inside the Cathedral because services were being held there. Nevertheless, it is a great testimonial to the folks of Molde for rebuilding it after the nazi destruction in WWII. It is beautiful and inspirational just because it is there. Perhaps others might have been more kind in their reviews had they been there like we were on a Sunday morning to hear the chimes calling folks to worship, and not looked it as a tourist attraction but a house of worship. Sometimes beauty is in the eye and ear of the beholder.

We stopped by the church while visiting the rose garden next door. The church is simple yet elegant. It was very peaceful.

Stands tall in the Center of Molde. It’s a straight forward church in terms of structure. Bell tower is one of the stand out.

A Norwegian church worth a visit. Note the simple stone symbolism embedded in the stone entryway, the historical intricate wooden ship hanging from the ceiling and make your way around the outside to the annex. You may find the ladies making fresh waffles and coffee for a very nominal cost. Your payment helps support their children's programs during the year.

The cathedral is in a lovely position on a hillside above the main St. It’s quite pared back with a separate bell tower. Having been used to our ancient buildings this is simpler but non the less interesting.
