Visit the open-air museum with its vast collection of old houses. Enjoy a stroll between the picturesque houses and the indoor exhibitions, and get an insight into the cultural and architectural history of Sunnmore.

Sunnmore Museum is a beautiful open air museum with 55 old and distinct houses. While walking in between these houses you feel as if you are put back in time, and you will see how people lived in earlier times.

On Wednesdays during summer, there are a lot of activities going on at the museum.

In the main building the fascinating exhibitions on archaeology and culture in the Sunnmore region will provide you with a unique insight into the life of the people who have inhabited this area for several thousand years.

Take a look at the museum's vast boat collection too, including replicas of Viking ships. The beautiful area surrounding the museum is also excellent for walks.

This open-air museum was our favorite tourist attraction in Alesund. The original buildings were brought from various places in Norway to tell the history of the country. It is possible to imagine what the life of these people was like centuries ago. It is possible to visit the interior of most of the buildings, which are adequately furnished. The museum... More

What a serene amazing place. We went for a nice long walk with our guide who told us the history of many of the buildings on display. From homes to school rooms to churches, these building were relocated from fjords around the area. Their lifestyles were explained and we learned and ooh'd and ah'd!!!! And then the long church boats,... More

This had a lot of nice touches and mostly exhibited how the people lived from the middle ages until current with many original farm houses and building relocated to the property. They also had a fairly large collection of fishing vessels and a reproduction of one of the oldest Viking ships found. Overall very nice outside museum.

A few miles from Alesund this is a great place to visit , walk from the church to the museum building and pass by the old buildings that have been removed from other parts of Norway , look out for the grass roof on the buildings . This is must see . Visit the museum on tree floors and in... More

Interesting outdoor museum. Exhibits are quite spread out and not labeled well. Be prepared to walk up hill, down hill, and to backtrack trying to get your whereabouts. There are 2 maps and neither was particularly useful in getting about the property. It would be helpful to label the buildings better with either numbers or names consistent with one of... More

A really beautiful setting with some simply stunning views. The museum is mostly outdoors with old timber buildings and Viking boats. The views in and around the grounds are worth the visit on their own. Beautiful views of water, snow topped mountains, tall trees and the serenity of the surroundings make it well worth a visit. There is also a... More

We walked from Alesund harbour which took just over an hour. Was a straight route and some lovely scenery. When arriving at the museum it was quite relaxed and there was no pressure to take a set route. We were given a map and told the closing time. Some lovely buildings and boats here. Well worth a visit.

This is a super little find in Alesund. Original houses and cabins have been relocated in to one spot and beautifully preserved. You can walk around and into the homes at your leisure or take the guided tour, which we did. Very interesting tour. Then onto the boat section where you see original boats, from days of old. Worth and... More
