The Art Nouveau Centre was opened by HM Queen Sonja of Norway on 6 June 2003, and is a national centre for Art Nouveau/ Jugendstil. The museum occupies the listed Svaneapoteket pharmacy building, right in the heart of Aalesund. Much of the original interior of the building has been preserved and restored. The museum has permanent and temporary exhibitions spread over three floors. Exhibits include a broad selection of Norwegian art nouveau objects, from advertising to jewellery, in addition to several multi-media shows. The Art Nouveau Centre has a gift shop and a cafe, where you can enjoy a nice slice of cake and a cup of coffee.

Great cafe. The beer, granola and pastries were amazing. Great place to stop when you come off the bus after hiking sukkertoppen, and close to boats.

Housed in an old apothecary in the centre of Alsund this museum is dedicated to the Art Nouveau period. After a fire in 1904 the whole town was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style. The museum displays a variety of artefacts and an impressive dining...More

We visited the Jugend-museum, as jugend was the one and only reason for visiting Ålesund. Beautiful building, interesting exhibitions. The "time machine" of the museum is a picture show that takes visitors in the middle of 1904. Nice idea, but it should be arranged so...More

A very pleasant and welcoming place in downtown Alesund. On 3 floors there ist an impressive exhibition with examples of the Norwegian Jugendstil and information on the reconstruction of the town in 1905. Absolutely worthwhile a visit.

If the most striking thing about Alesund is its Art Nouveau architecture, then the splendid Jugendstilsenteret is the launching pad for understanding why and how it got that way. With one of the best, and most innovative, introductory presentations I have ever seen, guests are...More

Once we had seen the Opdahl art display at KHAK, we had no doubts about directing our feet to the KUBE Art Museum next door to the Jugendstilsenteret in Aalesund. The broad presentation of Ørnulf Opdahl was really impressive – called Vintersolverv (winter solstice) –...More

Museum provides a good background of the challenges that faced this town after the fire devastated a large portion. The town used committees to decide of how to consider many of the ideas to redevelop the area. They seemed to take a long time to...More

For 80NOK this is a great way to quickly understand the devastating impacts of the fire that destroyed Alesund and learn of the amazing people and circumstances that led its rebuilding to the beautiful city it is today. The "time machine" is a fun way...More
