Out of the main city requiring a tram ride to Fantoft and a walk of about 10 minutes to the site in lovely surroundings. It was the first day when the church was open to the public and there is a fee to enter.

We unfortunately went after opening hours so we could not enter. We would have paid the fee of 60 kr to see how the church looks inside. The church is in an otherwise abandon area, a bit remote.

Going to visit Fantoft Stavkirke is like walking back into the past. The church has amazing architectural details. Visit it winter, spring, summer or autumn and you will always see it in a different light. Something new will pop up. Take a guide book or...More

I knew that because it was winter but this church was not open. However when I enquired at the tourist officeI was told that it was possible to look round the outside and take photographs. Getting there is fairly easy, Simply take the light rail...More

We visitid this church in winter, so it was closed for visitors, but we walked around it. It is a nice church, but the weather was really bad again, so we didn’t stay that long. It is easy accessible by the tram and you have...More

The construction of Stave churches is really cool, but their history is possibly more interesting than the buildings themselves.

This is maybe the easiest / best stavechurch to reach for tourists and to get an idea what a stavecurch is. Out of wood entirely, No windows except of one, for the people with leprosy, to look inside and take part of the ceremony. Of...More

It's just a quick 10 minute walk from the Tram stop "Fantoft". You hop off and head up the hill right outside the stop, and signs will point you in the right way which is up the hill. The small little gate/turnstile at the entrance...More

Beautiful setting at the end of a lovely, woodsy drive. It is a reconstruction after a fire several years ago.

I'm not sure about the bus airfare. We rented a car in Bergen and drove around the area for a day... That part was incredible, but the church, which could be paid by card at the door, was $10 USD per person. It's very small... More
