About
"WHO WE ARE AND WHAT YOU CAN EXPERIENCE..." AN EXPERIENCE THAT GUARANTEES A DESIRE TO LEARN! Male penguins sometimes adopt eggs and become the world's best "mothers", some turtles can breathe through their backsides, the plastic we throw away every year creates a sheet in the ocean as big as some countries, and spiders use hydraulics to move: after a visit to the aquarium, you'll definitely know something you didn't beforehand. And you'll know it with your entire body - not just your head. At Bergen Aquarium, children and adults alike can see, touch, read about and follow the animals and aquarium keepers at close range. You can watch shows and feedings, and see how fish and animals act when in their element. Bergen Aquarium has been a must-see institution for visitors and residents alike since 1960. It's situated a short way from the centre of Bergen, in a fantastic parkside location with a view out over the seaward approach to Bergen from all sides. There's good food, too: Biologen Akvariet is a brasserie offering proper food made with proper ingredients. It'll give you energy for the whole visit, and then some.

Nice and compact
Jul. 2021 • Family
Small and compact, bit a nice experience. Possible to reach over it all in half a day without feeling that you only saw 'a fraction' of it.

Amazing penguins
Jul. 2021
Although I can't argue with the fact that the Aquarium's entrance fee is quite pricy, there aren't so many things you can do around Bergen with children who are fed up with hiking. We went in with little expectations and were amazed by this small but very special aquarium. You can spend half hour already just by looking at the penguins outside. I have never been to any zoo where the penguins would give such a vivid show on their own and untrained. You can tell they feel at home in this place.
In the building visitors can see many interesting fish and different creatures such as the famous axolotls. The movie theatre has cute cartoons in Norwegian language, if anyone would like to sit for a while.
There is a playground with picnic area, a souvenir shop and a restaurant.
All in all we spent about three hours at the Aquarium and the only downside I can tell is the fact that although it was a Monday morning, we had to stand in line at the entrance for at least half an hour because the queue was very long and we did not expect this. Even if you buy your ticket online, you still have to stand in the same line.
I am only giving 4 stars because the 840 NOK price for a family ticket for a three hour experience is indeed a bit pricy and there should be a solution for a separate queue for people who have purchased their tickets online.

Not worth the money
Jun. 2021 • Friends
This place was terrible. For it to be norway’s biggest aquarium it didn’t have a lot of space for the poor animals. Not worth the high prize and it wasn’t that much to see. Felt depressed afterwards - the animals didn’t seem happy at all and barely had any room to move around.

Nice visit, but not unproblematic
Jun. 2021
We were a bit hesitant to go because the price is quite high, but in the end we decided to do it. The range of fish are amazing, though the info could use a bit of work: the screens, while modern, don't seem to be the best way to inform as they change quickly and you have to wait another round if you missed one. Our main take away was about the space. It was sad to see the very small space most of the animals had. Especially the penguins and the crocodile. We hope the foundation plan to fix this and give back to the animals, especially considering the high entrance fee and the popularity the aquarium seems to have.

Disappointing
May 2021 • Solo
This was the most disappointing and depressing aquarium I have ever been to.
Most of the cases were empty and there were barely any animals to see and when you do, they seem really depressed.

The tropical room was about 30-40 Sq. ft. with 3 large tortoises one of which looked like it was dieing. The plastic tub of minimal water was so depressing the turtle could barely get in and when it did it barely fit.
Tears actually came to my eyes at this place because it seemed like all of these animals were prisoners of a cruel joke.
The octopus was not to be seen probably because they are some of the smartest creatures on this planet and was trying to commit suicide in hiding.
I would have tried to get a refund for the exorbitant 300 something KR but I just let them keep my money in prayers that they use it to actually giving these animals a nicer prison cell.
Otherwise the writing on the wall was pretty good for informing people on how much humans mess up nature.

Hi, Thanks for your feedback and for the stars. We are now working on the biggest upgrade of our tropical department since we got the department. We will again have a big room for temporary exhibitions and the tropical department will be completely new and much nicer down in the basement. This will be open by the end of march. The aquarium is a foundation and "lives" on the income from the entrance ticket. This helps to provide food for the animals, maintenance and salaries for employees etc. Do you hope that what you get from experiences has given you so much that it was worth the money. Been there done that

New years day, time to test on of Bergens main attractions.
Although off season, admittance is close to 300 NoK. Is it worth it? Not really sure.
The outdoor area is small and the penguins are interesting and fun, but my money is on the sea otter.
Indoor display ranging from tropical snakes, crocodiles, poison frog and fish in all color and ranges was fine. Coole kid on the block was the piranha.
A bit dark and worn down exhibition and somewhat dull displays is basically our impression.
We had higher expectations.
COVID precautions seems to be in place and followed.
Been there done that.

Hello! Thank you so much for nice stars and feedback, we really appreciate it. Bergen Aquarium is a foundation, so we "live" by our ticket income. It is pricey to run the the Aquarium in a year in animal food, medicine, electricity and much more. The ticket price is calculated so we can renew exhibits and new projects. We wish we could be bigger and newer, but think we do the best we can with the space and building we have available, we did celebrate 60 years last year :) Bergen Aquarium

While waiting for Hurtigruten (ferry) we decided to visit the famous aquarium. Despite this pandemic that is upon us. Not too many visitors at this time.
Lots of different animals and a couple shows to watch and a lot of fun for kids of all ages.

Beauliful Aquarium

Visited the aquarium while staying in Bergen. Not crowded (at least in February), lovely aquarium with lots to see. There are outdoor shows and several floors inside with exhibits.

Nice way to spend a couple of hours
Feb. 2020 • Couples
We decided to go here because it’s free with a Bergen card in low season (25% off in high season) and we were looking for something to do on our last day. It’s about a 15 min walk from the harbour, through a part of town you might not otherwise visit.

Quite quiet when we went, which was nice and relaxing. Otters, seals, and penguins outside, with plenty to take your attention inside too, a small shark tunnel, there’s also crocodiles, cayman, snakes, tortoises, crabs and lots of fish and other marine life.

There’s a cafe and gift shop.

Recommended if you’ve got kids!
