First let me say that I am happy and even proud that Trondheim, a small university town by US standards, finds the funds and makes the magnificent effort to support culture and the arts of all types in many ways. I believe music and the arts have a vast, intangible value to society and future generations, and in Norway, the... More

There were very few paintings on display, with upstairs given up to computer screen installations. Free tea and coffee.

This art gallery is a bit out of the ordinary. The exhibitions change regularly but they seem to make a point of displaying items from their collection in less usual ways e.g. by theme or colour rather than in chronological order as in a traditional gallery. Not too big so good for children and there are lots of books in... More

The ground floor exhibition had themed rooms e.g. colour. Pictures on display were from different eras. Information was excellent as each room had its own information sheet available in English. Upstairs there were several video installations. More interesting was the work of an artist based on geology.

We only had a few hours, so a really quick visit to the museum, Shame no pictures, which would have good to refresh my memory. A very interest visit. Then a walk around town. Defiantly should allow more time. There is a lot to see and do and Trondheim is a warm and pleasant town.

There are two buildings on a combined ticket. Both have changing exhibits. The larger one is by the Cathedral and the small one the Gramolna on Innherreds Velen, over the river on the new footbridge, and past the new shops in the North East corner of the city centre. The Gramolna takes about 15 minutes to go round its modern... More

One of the main galleries in Norway which is oriented towards comtemporary art. In 2013 they put on an exhibiton by Elmgreen and Draget who are internationally known artists, Dragset coming from Trondheim. The museum is situated in the centre of the city with the famous Cathedral and other attractions near by.

When we arrived only half of the first floor was open due to renovation, which isn't their problem. However the actual museum is too sparse for comfort and the labelling of individual artworks is terrible - all the labels are in one corner of the room for the whole room, and then you have to play a guessing game of... This is the sort of place that makes the ordinary person feel quite stupid - uber modern art that defies any understanding of why it's hanging on a wall. Whilst I was there, there was a large room just filled with black canvas's and another room with what looked to be an old shed in a heap on the floor.... More

The art museum offers painting sessions for kids during holidays. A museum pedagogue gives guidance and explains the seasons theme. The exhibition is offering further ideas for the painting. The museum provides primary paints though kids learn to mix there own colors. A nice way to get kids to be creative during holidays.
