Interesting museum

A good way to learn about the history of Trondheim and the Nidaros Cathedral. Very interesting video presentation about the restoration and maintenance of the cathedral.

It was such a great addition to our visit to the cathedral. Best to get a combined ticket from the visitors center for just 160 krons. This gets you access to the cathedral, the royal crowned jewels and the archbishops palace :)

The cathedral, which was pretty much gutted by fire and then left to rot for many years, has been very successfully restored and this museum houses the original artefacts from the cathedral. These include many stone carvings, but also a coin mint workshop and models of how the cathedral expanded and contracted over time. First of all however do watch... More

A Great Place to visit in Trondheim Norway. I really enjoyed the area where the coins were minted and the tile floor which kept workers from burying coins under the dirt floors. The highlight however was the “Kings Regalia” where we got to see the crowns and the robes for the Norwegian Kings. There have not been very many kings... More

This museum houses original pieces from the cathedral, which was devastated by fires in the 1700s. It's interesting to see what's left of them, and see how they were used as inspiration for the cathedral's restoration. I recommend viewing the the cathedral first, then go to the museum, then go look at the cathedral again, to really appreciate the amount... More

The archaeology that has been discovered gives a fascinating insight to life of the people in medieval times as well as the ecclesiastical role of the bishop and the restoration of the cathedral.

Well worth a visit. A wide range of pieces of the old ruined cathedral on the ground floor were eclipsed by exhibits on the lower level. As others have indicated the film is worth seeing and puts the building's history into perspective. However enjoyment would have been enhanced had we seen the film first. The role of the site as a... Sadly, as one will learn from excellent short guided tour, the former museum burnt down in the '90s and lost all the relics. However, from the ashes were discovered more history once lost in time. This museum displays some amazingly old statues from the nearby cathedral. Just buy the combo ticket.

Wonderful museum. The historical video in the lower level would have been more useful to see before perusing through the whole buildings since it had a lot of good info. Nice rainy day activity. Free English speaking tours at 2:30pm. Recommend combined ticket with the Nidaros cathedral.
