Appreciate there is some symbolic significance but...for me. It’s a good landmark outside Oslo central station and great meeting spot! Every time we walked by there were lots of tourists climbing on it or taking selfies.

This tiger is on the camera of every visitor to Oslo. I am almost sure. It is such prominent piece that it is hard to miss or ignore. It is on the Central train stain compound and every time you pass by the is always someone posing with it for photos.

It is a humungous tiger statue and work of art. It is a definite must see if you are at this Central train station.

Sculpture "Walking Tiger". The sculpture is located near Oslo Central Station. It was opened simultaneously with the opening of the station in 1987. Take a walk around the area and you will find some more sculptures nearby.

This is a big tiger sculpture just outside the central station, nice but not outstanding. A first stop after leaving the central station on your city walking tour. The tourist information is nearby so pop in there for a city map.

Back in the days, when Oslo, or Christiania as it was called back then, went under the name "tiggerstaden" (city of beggars) by Danes and people from the more affluent western parts of the country due to the city's quite palpable poverty. The transition from "tigger" (beggar) to "tiger" could probably be attributed to some part to the intricacies of Danish pronounciation, or lack thereof. Obviously the good people of Oslo prefered to hear "Tiger" rather than "Beggar and hence the slightly surreal nickname Tiger Town.

Located at the main railways station is this bronze tiger statue . Huge one , but many people are just around it. My tour guide frowns at the mere presence of this tiger , saying there are really no tigers in Norway , I don’t know if that is true.

The tiger in front of Oslo Central Station is one of Oslo's most photographed "inhabitants" and one of the first things that meet a visitor arriving at Oslo Central Station. 0When Oslo celebrated its 1000-year anniversary in 2000, Eiendomsspar wanted to give the city a gift. Oslo wanted a tiger, and that's what they got: a 4.5-metre bronze tiger made by Elena Engelsen. The reason Oslo wanted a tiger, is the city's nickname Tigerstaden ("The Tiger City"), which most Norwegians are familiar with. The name was probably first used by Norwegian poet Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. His poem "Sidste Sang" from 1870 describes a fight between a horse and a tiger; the tiger representing the dangerous city and the horse the safe countryside.  Since then Oslo has been known as "The Tiger City", but these days it's not necessarily meant as a negative thing. "The Tiger City" can be an exciting and happening place rather than dangerous.

A big tiger just in a square outside the central train station. Many kids climb on it for photos and for fun.

The tiger has a nice story. Also meeting point for free city walking tours. Thought it was a bit understated though.
