You climb up to the fortress in ten minutes walk along a narrow road but can also get on a fancy tourist little train; once you get to the main stone entrance you have to be lucky that there are no private events inside, otherwise they don't let you in! Stunning view to the Oslo fjord from the bastions!

Oscarsborg Fortress, a former 1850's military fortress and batteries on an island in Oslofjord, accessible by ferry. When Norway was invaded on 9 April 1940, all of the fortress' armament was over 40 years old, and of German origin. Both the guns and the torpedo battery worked flawlessly when Oscarsborg encountered one of the German invasion flotillas. Gun No. 1;... More

Although the weather was wet we made the most of it with a full tour above and below ground. What a fascinating place and lovely to see everything so well preserved! We had a great time looking at the various collections of equipment inside as well as the gun batteries outside. Well worth the visit and learning of its' significance... More

We enjoyed a couple of hours here. Fantastically well preserved fortress with large guns from several eras. Significant role in the attempts to stop invasion of Norway in 1940.

I very much enjoyed this trip to the fortress although sadly not all of it is open. More explanation panels in English would have been useful but it is still worth the trip. The Island fortress is reached by boat adding to the fun. Food and ice creams are available.

Such a good place to visit on a warm, sunny day. You have to catch a ferry for about 5 minutes to get out to the island. The island has a big say in the Norwegian history, during the second world war the army based on this island managed to take down a big German ship who came after the... More

This is almost a once a year trip. Not far from Drøbak city, with a decomission small military vessel. There is a small beach where kids can play, some cheeps to look at, and if they want to, eat some grass from your hand. Museum free of charge with a lot of military equipment and a lot of free areas... More

Lots and lots of history out here. You take a ferry across the fjord and will find a restaurant, but why not bring your own and have a picnic! Great walking, history tours and relaxation. Try and go when there is music in the fortress. Wonderful acoustics.
