Grünerløkka is the Greenwich Village of Oslo, sort of. It has a hip, slightly 'Bohemian,' off-beat feel, some cute restaurants & quaint houses & buildings; it's definitely worth at least an hour stroll if not longer. I stayed in the guest house of a friend's...More

Lovely area with bars, restaurants, open cafes, parks and small shops of all kinds. We discovered it by chance and went back again later as there are so many places that you want to stop by. The area is a short walk from the Botanical...More

Loved this area. We walked through the graveyard by the old Aker Church, past quaint ginger-bready wooden houses, down to the Aker River and the student district. You can follow the river down stream. There was an interesting flea market on Sunday. Markveien is a...More

No H&M in sight here! After wearing ourselves out on the main tourist shopping avenue, Grunerlokka was very welcome sight. Lots of cafes, vintage stores and independent businesses made for a great afternoon of wandering and shopping. Highly recommend the trip here.

This is great part of Oslo to wonder around with the ecclectic shops in Markveien along with the walk up both sides of the Akerselva river. Get up there to avoid the crowds down Aker Brygge.

We were there to visit young people who had just moved. Beautiful open space, oarks full of young couples with children. Many places to seat out for coffee, drink food. Buildings look old outside but nicely renovated apartments inside. Fantastic lively atmosphere. We walked to...More

This neighborhood has a lot of interesting shops, including secondhand stores. It has a good Market Hall, a nice park Ola Reyes Plass, and some funky artsy streets, one with a beautiful glass chandelier suspended over it.
