It is a huge hall with loads of food options in a trendy area. Good prices for Norway so worth a walk. Only took us 15 minutes from centre.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 April 2024
- Victor OToronto, Canada6 contributionsFood, beer and pretty place ! MUST VISITThis is a great place to be if you are with friends and dont want to walk much. We visited this place right after we arrived in Oslo. The market is very modern, not such a typical market but with that style. Food stands and beer places are all over the place. The river along is else very cool... Our hotel was just next to it so we were so lucky to be in such a great location.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 24 April 2024
- F H Care26 contributionsFun experience with lots of choiceWe visited Mathallen Oslo on our walk following the river from Sognsvann back to the city. A perfect pit stop - a great selection of places to eat and drink where you could buy from multiple vendors and enjoy together. The food we ordered (gyoza from Hong's Bao Bao, and beef noodles from a different place - sorry, can't recall the name) were both very tasty. And we enjoyed a beer from Hop Yard. Standard prices for Norway (maybe slightly cheaper than traditional restaurants) in a fun, lively but relaxed environment. One of our best foodie experiences in Oslo.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 July 2024
- MemphisHong Kong, China31 contributionsA food hall for familyI have been the food hall in other cities. This one was bigger and have more food choices. I arrived at lunch time during weekday. It was not too many people and we could walk around the hall easily. We tried a restaurant inside the hall called Helt Vilt. The food was tasty, the environment was comfortable and the staff was friendly. Location: It is easy to go by tram from the central station to here. If you are not tried, you can walk from the central station to here too. Food choices: You can check its website to know the restaurant there before you decide to come. I saw some tourists who could not find anything they liked after a while. It is also a place suitable for family. Surrounding: The surrounding of food hall is also good for photography.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 July 2024

Love our experience here always even though our favorite place to eat is not there any longer. We tried another new place similar to the one we use to visit and we were happy with the food and service. Its good when you catch the place on a less busy because on pick times its hard to find a place to sit and eat. Take home of food it possible and buying of food for cooking or consumption is possible. Extra bonus the creek at the back of the restaurant its a wonder to see if you love nature it looks different on each season.

Some of our friends recommended us this place as somewhere to get great food for reasonable prices.
And that's pretty much what you get. There is a great variety of places that offers nicely looking food or ingredients for cooking. We had fish in one place and also bought ourselves macaroons at another. All was really awesome; in terms of athmosphere it might be a bit nicer but it still has its own charme and you know what you get at such a place anyway.
Only minus was a (false) fire alarm that was only announced in Norwegian and we had to ask someone to explain to us what was going on.

One of the central points of Grünerløkka is the Mathallen, a classic Scandinavian indoor Point of Sale where you can taste different types of food - mostly foreign. We opted for Helt Vilt with local cuisine: as an appetizer I chose reindeer salami, elk etc. to follow a venison burger sandwich - blue Bambi Burger - excellent in texture and flavor, accompanied by sweet potatoes. Prices in line with Oslo

Varying quality of the food but the overall experience is positive. Quite expensive like most food in Norway; but SEK 300 for a burger like that with fairly good fries from Budapest was awesome. More affordable were 2 good juicy baos for SEK 150 or salmon bowl for SEK 195 where the salmon was great but the rice was ordinary basmati rice and thawed mango. We also tried local beer which was excellent. Macarons and donuts for dessert also tasted good.

It is a converted market where there are a lot of establishments with all kinds of foods of various nationalities and for all tastes: it is difficult not to find something that you cannot eat.
We tried a moose burger with fries at SALGSKVITTERING (254 crowns), we had not tried this type of meat and it was quite tasty.
And, at Vulkanfisk some mussels accompanied by fried potatoes (265 crowns), the quantity was very correct but they were quite bland.
The mechanics are simple: at the counter you request what you want to taste, they give you a “warning” and when the beep sounds you go for it.
You can sit either in the establishment's dining room or in any other place with free seating.
The prices are market prices, even those of the beers, which, as is known, alcohol is very expensive: between €9 and €10.

Pleasant Walk along a small river of Akerselva will get you to this “deli and street-food temple” of Norwegian capital.
Excellent selection of small shops, bakeries, tapas bars, cheese vendors...You can do your groceries there but also have a decent meal in one of many food corners and restaurants or cafes. And Grünerløkka is just across the river.

I was hoping for this food court to be kinda great. Was disappointed with the selection of vendors and the loudness of the place with lots of kids running around and parents don't really care too much. This is a family place, not for romantic couples on vacation.

Can be heard going out with a QR code where you can order from all places in the Mathallen. But when you end up having to pick up the food from 4 different places in the hall at different times, it becomes a little pleasant and no food peace. And now the food is served lukewarm on a cardboard plate and does not taste good and is seen only as sad. Don't understand why it's full of people here. I remember Mathallen as good when it opened, but it's been a long time.

My husband and I love food tours. We are flying into Oslo on the morning of 11 Jun and arriving at 9:30 AM at Oslo airport. Would there be enough time for my husband and I to get to the food tour on time at 1100 or could we meet the tour at about 1130? We are staying at the Hotel Continental, Oslo. We depart Oslo on the morning of 14 Jun so will not have any other opportunity for this tour. Please advise

Thank you for the information. We have decided it's too tight on time to make this tour. Maybe next time we visit Oslo?
