This Tromso icon shows off its unique design in a way that stands out from its surroundings while blending right in. The church is amazing and inspiring, both inside and out. For a great view of the church and Tromso, walk across the bridge from...More

It was Christmas and we were roaming around the city. Luckily we happened to see a large crowd going into the cathedral. It was amazing from the outside. Inside the building was simple and small. We also joined the crowd and were lucky to view...More

Unfortunately the cathedral was closed because there was a wedding. That is perfectly understandable. But it would be nice if we could see how long it would take and when the cathedral would be open to visit again.

Over the years this spiritual building has become a symbol of town, recognizable, almost iconic place. It is a must stop on your travel here. Although the cathedral is striking from outside it is very simplistic in the inside and surprisingly small. To get most...More

In spite of being closed the Cathedral os huge and beautiful. The opening time wasn't compatible with out flight time but cross the bridge and take some pictures near Cathedral is wonderful.

We were staying at the Clarion Hotel With, across the bay in Tromso, so we walked over to the cathedral (which is on the mainland, so we crossed the bridge on foot, great walk about 20 mins) a couple of times on our way to...More

If Tromsø is "Paris of the North", the Arctic Cathedral may be its Eiffel Tower. And like the Eiffel Tower, it can be appreciated as much from the outside as from the inside. Along with the arching bridges to Tromsø's island center, it defines the...More

This interesting contemporary building stands out, and beckons to visitors to cross the bridge to visit. The stained glass window at the far end has great impact, and dominates the whole interior.

We are stopping in Tromso on a Princess cruise. My understanding is the cruise port is not near the city. Is this true? Would it be walkable? Also, do you have to pay to get in the Arctic Cathedral and how near is the cable car, please?

I believe the port for the larger cruise liners is a short distance away, but not far enough to be a problem. I think there is a small fee for The Arctic Cathedral and the Cable car is not that much further on from there... More
Just out of interest does anyone know if there are concerts/ recitals during the daytime at the cathedral? We will be there from 09.00 - 18.00, and it will be a Sunday. In June. Thanks in advance

On Sundays there are three masses per day. Go to the tourist information in the city centre, and they will advise you. The bus boes from centre over the bridge to the Cathedral. Pål

I found this to be an easy walk. It is maybe 30 minutes one way. If its cold be sure to have a scarf and hat. It is pretty windy at the middle of the bridge. As an alternate it is also super easy to catch the bus on each... More
