A visit to northern Norway`s best preserved trading post is a journey back...

A visit to northern Norway`s best preserved trading post is a journey back in time. Here you can feel the past, with "jektefart" and fish trading, Herring and the daily life in northern Norway coastal communities in the 19 century. Kjerringoy Trading Post is a unique example of coastal heritage set in magnificent scenery. It consists of 15 old buildings retaining many of their original contents. It is one of the country's most important collections of buildings from the nineteenth century. The beautiful slide-show "Anna Elisabeth of Kjerringoy" provides an excellent introduction to a visit. It lasts about 20 minutes. Guided tours are then available around the various yards and buildings. You can shop in the store ("Kramboden") or enjoy refreshments in Nyfjosen Cafe or in the garden. In the museumshop in Nyfjosen you can buy gifts and souvernirs, local design and crafts.

Nice landscape between Bødo and Kjerringoy well worth the trip. Trading post is well restored but in winter everything is closed down so don't expect a lot of entertainment except for what nature has to offer. Be aware that you have to take a short ferry ride to get there so plsn carefully especially in winter.

A beautiful place to trot around, absorb the wealth that provided for the large timber constructed buildings. No surprise that this place frequent Norwegian films.

We spent a few hours in this incredible museum (do not forget to pay at the entrance, it's easy to pass by it without noticing you have already entered the site). The buildings are extremely well maintained and the location is idyllic. Do not miss the guided tour of the main building. If you are lucky, Ivar will be your... More

This is a historical place where you can relax and admire a trading post from the 19/20 century. Especially recommended for people interested in history and the development of commerce, or not wanting to climb. There is a nice walk arounf the place

Utter tranquility. Wander around, let life slow down a little and enter a world from the past - long gone.

My wife had been to Kjerringoy before, but for me it was the first time, and I was keen on getting to a place which is some kind of meodel for trading posts often mentioned in Knut Hamsund's novels. Getting there by ferry was smooth and a 15 drive on a narrow road got us to the main church next... More

We visited the trading post in February and were warmly welcomed by the gentleman working in the shop. We watched a movie on the history of the trading post then were given a very informative tour of the buildings. It was very interesting to see how people lived back then. I'm sorry that I don't remember the name of the... More

Beautiful and serene historical trading post. But I arrived on a stormy day outside the tourist season so almost everything was closed. The visit was saved by warm and friendly locals who went all out to show me around and share local information and history in the open air areas. Was also very lucky to have met Obi, who drove...
