I travelled by bus through the islands, and the islands are stunningly beautiful. The scenery is incredible. However there were several short detours to the local artists museum at Henningsvaer, the blacksmith at Sand, the white sandy beach at Romberg, lunch at Nusfjord at the...More

This place is out of world, like really. Bright sun, snow clad mountains , turquoise water, beaches and more. This place is so serene that you will be in continuous awe till the time you are here and not want to go back. Absolutely worth...More

I took an evening ferry from Bødo to Svolvær and stayed there for 3 nights. I think Svolvær has beautiful fjords which spread out all over. You should explore every possible corner to catch the majestic views - the small island opposite the ferry terminal...More

Stunning, stunning, stunning is the only words I can suggest for this location. We spent 8 nights here for our photography and Northern Lights chasing and we had a beautiful stay. The Island's are just magical and a must see... 👍

There is a lot of history in this town about the fishing industry, very interesting. I recommend a guided tour where the history is explained as it is truly incredible how this town has become what it is today. The people are charming and it...More

We reached Lofoten via a flight from Bodo to Leknes in Dec 26. . We had a total of 6 days and had 1.5 days of good weather. It is a gamble to travel in the winter. We rented a car and drove everywhere, roads...More

We travelled in October, when weather is still pretty good, Northern Lights are very possible, and tourists are significantly fewer. All pros in our opinion! Flying to Leknes via Bodo was a good option. Leknes is not very pretty, but is very centrally located and...More

Two of the most beautiful places I've ever had the pleasure to visit, a photographers dream, my only sadness is that I didn't visit it in its idyllic Winter wonderland state. The places are what you'd envision in your mind while reading fairytale books with...More

What is the best time of year to visit the Lofoten Islands? Is wintertime the most beautiful?

We were there in summer - as a day stop on a cruise ship. It was light until about midnight and the scenery was stunning. I think the only issue in winter would be there is barely any daylight.
Hi how do I get to these islands from the UK? which is the nearest airport please? I believe the best way to go around is a car, thanks for any help

Fly to Leknes or Svolovaer and rent a car. Book the car before you fly. These are small airports with car rental booths that aren't attended 24/7.
