We took a short walk to this fortress at the end of the day. It is small and surprisingly there are houses inside the walls, as well as a (closed) church. Convenient for a short visit and to have a walk.

It's a 18th century fort. It's in the far North of Norway. Most of the info is in Norwegian but there is an English handout which gives enough info on the fort and it's history. A small fee for entry (via an honesty box). It's one of Vardo's big tourist sights but only worth it if you are in the town already.

Travelling with the Hurtigruten ferry this is a recommended visit in the hour that you have on the island. It is about a 10mins walk either way so you only get about 40mins inside for the entrance fee. Worth a look and makes a break from the ship.

Maybe the most northerly fort in europe. I understand that the Royal Navy once bomabarded it during the Napoleonic Wars. Some great views - including the Radar Domes that monitor the Soviet Navy - plus some fine old cannons. A ten minute walk from the harbour and well worth a look.

A quick visit to the Vardo fortress from an excursion from a Hurtigruten cruise . An interesting fort to work around and in and is still manned by a Sergeant and 2 privates .

Worth a visit.
Nice old buildings and and the star shaped wall/fort you can walk on, to get a nice view over the place and the sea.
Short walk from the dock if you arrive with Hurtigruten.

It was a nice break from the cruise I was on to take a walk to the fort. It is well kept and depending on your level of interest you can walk and take pictures of the perimeter for free or pay 59 Nok to get inside. I opted for the outside walk and got some nice pictures of old cannons and such.

The old fortress at an outpost in Norway. Very well kept fortress farthest east of Norway. Just a few hundred meters into the sea lies Norway's easternmost point. The star-shaped fortress is very well preserved. This is a place that must be visited when one has reason.

A must see place very interesting some of the buildings were open, no staff. Plenty to read on notices, small box for donations toward upkeep as it is a charity concern .#
