Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city centre and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theatres, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.

An emperors hunting lodge

I Have not been there for about 25 years. I was invited to a party and remembered it as a.very expensive place. I was pleasantly surprised that prices are now very reasonable and the place still looks clean bright and is a lovely location at the end of the Hauptallee. There is ample parking space and there is also a bus that goes there.
The menu is well balanced and there are enough waiters to look after customers.
I had boiled beef with vegetables and typical Austrian potatoes called geroestete, a good generous portion, the meat was tender, juicyr and tasty. There was also a good selection of starters and soups, as well as a selection of sweets on the menu as well as a apple cake, Sachertorte, poppyseedtorte, Lusthaustorte and cheese and whipped cream Torte which is what we call cheesecake. The service was pleasant and not intrusive and I will definitely return. Good

Disappointing
Aug. 2018 • Couples
My wife and I walked 8 kilometres through the long park trying to get a feel for this part of Vienna. At first we found a second rate fairground but then wandered in to the park itself, a wonderful never ending tree lines avenue, on a quiet and cool day. It was exhilarating and tiring but extremely enjoyable.

At the end of the walk were were looking forward to a lunch at the famous Lusthaus and when we found the building it looked great from the outside. However when we entered all the table is the room were not set up and clearly the place has very little custom.

A very nice waiter who spoke a little english offered after asking an english menu. My wife choose the Gnocchi and I the frankfurters. Well, the dishes have to be seen to be believe - see attached photos.. The gnocchi was 6 very large potato dunmplings in a bowl, and the frankfurters were two from a can and boiled with a dob of mustard.

A rel let down, but because of our walk we were hungry and ate..

The only positive here was the attitude of the waiter who was trying his best to keep us happy, also directing us to the bus. The other guy on duty seemed very grumpy and distant.

Conclusion is not to be swayed by what you read about this place in the write-ups, and ignore it completely

Spent there a pleasant afternoon break from hiking with an excellent cheese cake and an "Einspänner", one of 8 different Viennese coffee variations on the menu.

We celebrated my mothers birthday and had a wonderful table on the terrace, a great menu (crispy Chanterelle salad, the vlassic Wiener Schnitzel), accompanied by Gemischter Satz from Weingut Wieninger) and excellent service .
Hotseradish was out .
Thanks for the memorable evening.

In between the woods, historic paintings decorating the restaurant, quality dishes, decent noble quiet, fancy staff, next to horse stalls baseball and golf field. 1min from bus station, lot of walking and cycling paths around, huge playgrounds for kids 3mins away

For me, the Lusthaus is always the turning point of my regular jogging in Vienna. And the street leading here, the Prater Hauptallee is a real joggers paradise: it leads from the Prater ferris wheel up to Lusthaus over 8km, and each kilometer has a sign so you know the distance you covered.
