Vienna was our last stop after Budapest and Prague travelling with my husband and 20 and 24 year old daughters. My 20 year old is studying in Vienna for the semester so she was a little leary of a tour in Vienna since "she knew it all". Turns out she didn't. :) Barbara met us at our air bnb and... More

I'd read some Vienna Walks reviews and was very disappointed that the historic Jewish Vienna tour took place only on Mondays and I was flying back on Sunday. But luckily, there was a tour of Modern Jewish Vienna (Leopoldstadt) on Friday afternoon, so I decided to skip part of a conference I was attending for two hours. I emailed Vienna... More

From all of the reviews we read, we assumed we were in for a special treat. As it turned out I guess Barbara wasn't the right tour guide for us. We wanted a Jewish tour of Vienna. What we got was a tour that seemed to justify what happened during the war (The Austrians were starving and desperate-huh???) We wanted... More

Hi there, Thank you - never than less - for your review. Honestly, for 1,5 hours I was trying to actually find out what you wanted to see. Jewish History ... THERE IS NOTHING LEFT, IT WAS ALL DESTROYED !! I wanted to give you a thorough overview of jewish history of what once was there and there is again.... More

My family and I did two tours. We did a private tour of Vienna and Barbara was fantastic. She was great with replying to my questions during the planning stage and was fabulous during the actual tour. She took our interests in mind, addresses all our questions and took us to unplanned locations to give us a true taste of... More

We did a full tour of the Jewish Quarter with Barbara and the amount of knowledge she was able to share with us was unbelievable. She took us to the best kosher bakery to get soufganiyot as it was Chanukah. Definitely recommend using Barbara for your tour!

What a beautiful city, the buildings are spectacular and special. Go and see the famous sites and places, eat kaiserkreven, coffee at any wonderful shop, eat the strudels and take lots of pictures to jog your memories. This is such a unique place and the people are fabulous .

After doing many walking tours across Europe of varying quality, the tour with Barbara of the Jewish Quarter in Vienna ranks among the best. Barabara's knowledge was extensive. I was amazed at the level of detail and the breadth of history she covered and her passion for the subject really shined. Jewish history is important in most cities in Europe,... More

Barbara was very responsive before our trip with emails and suggestions (like Kosher food). We met up with Stephan who was also reachable via WhatsApp for a private tour. We got a fascinating tour of all the jewish sights. Stephan is so knowledgable (History major) and not just on the jewish history of Austria. He gave meaning to Monuments and... More

It was very interesting knowing the city from a different angle. Christopher explained some of the unknown history of the city with a lot of humor and it made it even more fascinating! I recommend it!

Barbara was a wealth of information, and my daughter and I really enjoyed our two-hour walking tour through Jewish Vienna. Barbara was particularly helpful with tracking down my Viennese roots. So glad we did this tour!

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
