I have the privilege to live only 4 stops away from Schönbrunn Palace and I love to walk in the gardens any time of the year. My recent visit was on a sunny day in midst winter, with everything covered in snow. Very beautiful and romantic. The gardens are extensive and you have lots of different options to walk (or... I may be a little biased in my opinion of historical lace because I love them so much, they tell you so much of a time long gone! This is just an awesome "garden" built in a very historic city, in a country that has some of the most spectacular scenery in the world...no wonder they live so well, they... More

Wonderful gardens with plenty of walking and hidden treasures. I visited in the winter however I think it would be much better to visit spring, summer or autumn when the gardens are in full bloom

Beautiful French and English Gardens. Far larger than most pictures represent. You can take as many pics of the gardens as you want and never run out of subject matter.

A must-see, there you can visit the royal palace where king Josef and princess Sisi was living, the small tour inside the palace is about 50 minutes and costs €13 and allow you to see 20 rooms, there is also a big tour which i know nothing about :) There a huge garden as well, when you go on top... Staying in Hietzing

Neighbourhood Profile
Hietzing
Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence and the gardens with Gloriette belvedere. Reserve the other half to discover the secret charms of this posh residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at Hietzinger Tor (Hietzing Gate) and head down Hietzinger Hauptstrasse for Kaiserpavillon (Emperor’s pavilion), an Art Nouveau gem right on top of U4’s metro railtracks. At local institutions Café Dommayer and restaurant Plachutta you can mingle with residents, their families and friends. Dommayer has risen to fame since waltz king Johann Strauss and his orchestra performed there regularly. If you want to go beyond private villa gazing visit Klimtvilla and Hermesvilla. Art Nouveau genius Gustav Klimt had his last studio in a now beautifully renovated villa, which is open during spring and summer. Hermesvilla at Lainzer Tiergarten animal enclosure and nature park is a must for all romantics and fans of Empress Sissi.
